Our Garden Is One Month Old!

It has already been a month since Mother’s Day when we started planting our garden.  Hard to believe an entire month has gone by already.  A lot of changes are happening already.  Mostly that stuff is up.

The corn is nearly a foot high.  The carrots, beets and green onions are up and the tomatoes already have a couple blossoms on some of the plants.  The squash, pumpkin and pepper plants are growing well too.

We recently added more pots and planted watermelon, more lettuce, cilantro, dill and cucumber.  I planted Shasta Daisy seeds in an old galvanized bucket I’ve had forever.  In fact, it came with the place.

We transplanted some perennials to the backyard flowerbed last week and so far they seem to be taking to their new home.  The cooler weather and light rain we’ve been having probably helps.

Our pear tree is loaded with fruit this year.  If it all bears out we most likely won’t need to buy any for canning this year.  No plums on the plum tree.  I think it got hit by frost this spring.  Not a single plum.

The apple tree is iffy.  We treated it but it has been a problem for us every summer with pests.  Maybe this year we will be lucky.  We might need to remove it and replace it with a peach tree.  I’d be fine with that, I prefer peaches.  I hate to cut down a nice tree but it isn’t a producer; just a mess.

The girls and I are pretty tickled with ourselves at this point.  This is our largest garden endeavor by far and we are hopeful  and excited to see how it evolves.  I just love summer!

How is your garden growing this year?
