The
first day of school is today. New
school, new teachers, new friends and a host of new experiences await them. They both have a light case of nerves but for
the most part it is excitement they are experiencing. The first day of the school year is a short
day so they will be dismissed at 1:15. I
am surprising them with 50¢ vanilla ice cream cones at Burger King after
school. It will be a good time to sit
and let them tell me about their day.
I sent
them off in a “new to them” outfit, new tennis shoes and a healthy home packed
lunch. Not to mention a backpack stuffed
full of school supplies (bought for pennies).
They will be very happy to empty those backpacks into their desks. They are a little heavy.
I spent
yesterday making items for their lunches this week – fruit cups, gelatin cups, whole
wheat chocolate chip oatmeal cookies and individual bottles of milk.
A
couple Saturdays ago I picked up a boneless ham at Cash & Carry (a
restaurant supply grocery store). It was
$1.58 a pound and it was huge! I cut it
into four equal parts, wrapped and froze three of them and I am using the other
one to make thin slices of ham for lunchmeat as well as breakfast and soon a
pot of bean soup. There will be plenty
of leftovers to pack in their thermoses for lunches as well as the ham
sandwiches.
Another
summer officially behind us and another school year officially upon us. Ready or not, here it comes!
