Last Week’s Thrifty Moves

On Sunday the girls and I worked on pruning the apple tree some more.  We had another full trash bin to take to the curb again this week.

We made Sunday breakfast using our fresh eggs and a half a package of breakfast sausage along with leftover onion, green bell pepper, and cheese for a delicious egg scramble topped with homemade salsa.  We had plenty of meat, veggies and cheese left for two more breakfasts throughout the week.

I taught my oldest daughter how to make macaroons.

I clipped coupons and mapped out a plan of attack for Albertson’s.  This is what I got:

  • Five boxes of breakfast cereal, on sale for $1.88, less $1 off 2 + double coupon = final price 88¢ each
  • 4# bag of sugar $1.99
  • Bone in ham 99¢/lb. – nearly ten pounds for $9.04

I received a free sample of Tide To Go stain remover in the mail.  I used the last of my free dishwasher detergent samples to run the dishwasher this week.

I continued work on my second afghan for my Etsy store in between customer visits at my shop.

Our weather warmed up enough that I was able to turn off the main heat source in our house.  We will use the fireplace if we need a little warmth from now on unless we get a cold spell.

I used some store coupons to pick up a few items at Fred Meyer and get a jumpstart on my April shopping list.

I fixed our upstairs toilet.  The flush lever broke so I stopped at Home Depot on the way home Friday and purchased a replacement.  Saturday morning I put it in.  Super quick and easy repair!

Saturday we finished pruning our apple tree.  Doing it ourselves saved us $300.  We also have some wood to burn in our fire pot in the backyard after it winters over.  The smaller debris I have been putting in our regular trash bin and setting at the curb each week so we don’t have any additional dump fees.

The girls and I got our seeds started for the garden.  We used soil, peat cups, a starter tray and seeds we already had and a few new packets I had purchased on sale at the end of last summer.

I made lemon loaf cakes with raspberry sauce to give friends and family for Easter.

This month I was ultra conservative with our fuel and driving.  I have ended the month with a quarter tank of gas still in the tank!

The chickens blessed us with 13 eggs this week.
