My Uber Thrifty Month - February In Review

This month this year compared to last year is again much improved.  In fact, there really is no comparison.  Again my income was higher and our expenses much lower.

Three weeks ahead of schedule I accomplished financial goal Number One!  Whoo hoo!!  Now I am ready to tackle Number Two.

Despite the lack of extra income from my temp job I was still able to meet one of my two savings goals.  Because I doubled my savings goal last month I am still very much on track.

After three weeks off I was reassigned by the temp agency.  Same company, different department.  They called and asked to have me back (so flattered).  This assignment is for more hours and the possibility of becoming a permanent position.

I stuck to my grocery budget using sales and coupons to get more mileage out of my dollars.  With careful shopping I was able to add a small stockpile to the new freezer.

We did not dine out last month.  We borrowed movies from a friend and also watched programs online for free.  My oldest daughter's band concert allowed us a nice evening out as a family at no cost.  We also enjoyed a game night with snacks made from items we already had on hand and a movie night and ice cream party with ice cream purchased on sale and homemade chocolate syrup.  I used $5 from our entertainment budget for the ice cream.

I replaced the mattress on my oldest daughter's bunk.  Fred Meyer had them in their camping section for $21.99!  I bought one and took it home.  After machine washing the cover and letting it line dry I put it on the new mattress.  Perfect fit!  My daughter reports it is plenty firm and very comfortable.  I plan to replace the youngest one's next month.

I had wonderful eBay sales last  month, in fact the best I've ever had, which supplemented our income very well and allowed me to pay the bills, buy groceries, fill our propane tank and put a little away in savings.  I am truly grateful for that.

So for the second month of the year I claim success!

How are some ways you saved money or worked on some goals you have set?

  2. Yes, you truly are an inspiration! I was wondering if maybe you could do a future post on how and what you sell on ebay, i have found that sometimes with all of the fees that it seems like a waste of time. Also, I was wondering how you make a living. Unlike you, I am married and have not worked for almost 13 years and am thinking of getting back into the work force. It seems so daunting though and I sometimes I feel like I actually save money by being home. Thank you!

    1. It has taken me a long time to figure out what works for me. In fact, I think I am still learning. But it is fun for me and that makes it worth it too. I will be doing a post where I talk a little bit about it soon so keep an eye out. :)

  4. It is so wonderfully satisfying to achieve a goal, isn't it? Keeps your spirits lifted when things are tough and makes you feel stronger for having met it; at least that's what meeting goals does for me. Well done you!
