Grocery Budget Update - December

Well, I didn’t stay on budget and I have to admit I didn't really try too hard.  There were so many great buys and we did A LOT of entertaining this month.  I'm not unhappy with my final total but I do have a ton of ideas swirling around in my head of ways to do better in 2015.

My non food budget came in at $12.98 for a 16# bag of cat food on sale and a bag of cat litter.  That was it.  I didn't buy anything else.

This is what I bought for food this month:

Not horrible but I know I can do much better next month and I intend to.  How did you save money on groceries this month?  Were you able to find some good sales and stock up on anything?

  1. I think you did well this month! How in the world did you get cheese for 3¢?? That is awesome!!
I didn't stock up on anything this month (that I can recall at this moment.) From this point on we are in our "use-what-we-have season". We are not spending any money unless we have absolutely to and we are eating from what we currently have on hand (except for occasional runs to the store for fresh produce and milk.) I also have cut way back on our budget (it is technically zero right now, but I do have some dollars put aside for necessary things.) Pretty much all household items, including laundry detergent, is being bought at the dollar store and only being bought if absolutely necessary. We will do this as long as our supplies last- hopefully we can stretch things out for a month or two. :)
That's how we are kicking off our New Year- haha!
Wishing you and your family a safe and happy 2015!!

    1. Happy New Year Dawn!!! Actually they paid me 3 cents to buy it because it was marked down more than what it sold for. Ha! They knew it too. I'm determined to stay on budget throughout 2015. I really hope I can.

  2. Can't recall if I've mentioned A Girl Called Jack to you. She has some intriguing recipes that are very inexpensive, along with other frugal tips. She's not what you might call 'mainstream' but she writes beautifully and she knows her way around a kitchen. I don't need another cook book, but I'm tempted to buy hers; meantime there are plenty of recipes on her blog.

I don't visit here regularly but when I do get around to it I always enjoy reading through a variety of posts. Your 'can do' attitude is very uplifting and inspiring. I wish I had half your energy! Wishing you and yours a happy 2015.
