Grocery Budget Update - February

My stock up meat item this month was ground turkey. We had no ground turkey left in the freezer so I was happy to be able to restock this item that I enjoy using a lot.  My oldest and I stood in the meat department for quite awhile doing the math calculations to determine which was the best buy.  We finally decided on two 3# packages of lean ground turkey for $17.58 less a $3.00 OFF coupon Fred Meyer had sent to me for a meat purchase.  I was able to divide the meat into eight packages to freeze.

I was able to stock the freezer with 10# of grated cheese.  Five pounds of pizza blend and five pounds of cheddar Monterey jack.  I also added the ten jars of peanut butter to the pantry I had purchased ahead in January.

My non food budget came in at $30.38, a little bit over, for cat food, cat litter, dish soap, mouthwash, cotton swabs, cough syrup and fabric softener.  I used a lot of coupons and purchased everything on sale so I was spending as little as possible on each item.  The cough syrup was only 74¢.  I also bought a bottle of facial cleanser and a gallon of distilled water.

This is the food breakdown for the month.  The items I highlighted are the stock up items:

How did you save money on groceries this month?  Were you able to find some good sales and stock up on anything?

  1. I found no good deals because I have not felt like shopping. That in itself is a good deal I guess. This was a pretty good week to not shop. The ads were just not that great this week.

    1. The ads here haven't been all that great lately but Albertsons had a good one this week so I got quite a few good buys on Sunday.

  2. You did great this month- especially with all the stock up items you got. I have been following these grocery budget posts of yours carefully because I am thinking that we need to decrease the grocery/household budget in the coming year. When I saw your totals I figured that we should be able to do much better, but I need to get the rest of the family on board and we need to discuss things. Thanks for always posting these rundowns of your month- I find them very helpful. :)

    1. I'm glad you find them helpful and I appreciate the feedback. If you keep at it and only buy the sales items eventually you'll be well stocked beyond your wildest imagination. Right now my freezer is completely full and my pantry is so full I had to put the overflow in the hall closet. I think I'll be slowing down on the grocery shopping a bit next month. :)

  3. I didn't find any good deals this week. Perhaps it had something to do with us feeling yucky, more snow and very cold temperatures. Thank goodness for my freezer stash. Minestrone soup one night, enchiladas and rice another, pasta with meat sauce yet a third night. Once we feel more like facing the nasty weather again you can be sure this little family will be on the hunt for bargains again.
Thank you again for sharing your bargains,
    Vanessa B
