Last Week's Thrifty Moves

I made a bottle of maple pancake syrup and a pint of chocolate ice cream syrup.

I sold a scarf and ear warmer set to one of my blog readers.  Thank you very much!

The only grocery shopping I did was to pick up two gallons of milk at $1.99 each.

I picked my first blueberry.  It was delicious!

I went through my pantry and pulled some stuff to make a big bowl of trail mix for us to snack on last week.  Peanuts, multi grain Cheerios, Craisins, raisins and M&Ms.

Since appetites are a little off with the summer heat I made a nice veggie platter and kept it in the refrigerator for snacking along with a variety of salad dressings for dipping.  We also kept our Brita water pitcher full and drank a lot of ice water.

Since I don't have a Costco card I ordered our Kirkland brand vitamins online through Amazon.  They shipped for free in two days and I got the discounted price for being a Prime member.  I think that made them less than at the store.

I stopped at Walgreens and picked up three packs of sugarless gum on sale for 69¢ each.  I used a $1.00 OFF coupon making my final price 1.07 plus tax.  I kept one pack for myself and put the other two in my stocking stuffer stash.

Also at Walgreens I bought four sleeveless undershirts on sale for $2.oo each.  I plan to pair them with some sleep shorts for the girls to have as summer pajamas.

I printed off six online grocery coupons from Coupons.com.

I took the girls to the dollar movie Tuesday night.  We saw Mall Cop 2.  They thought it was pretty funny.

I set up the toaster oven from our old RV in the garage so we can bake things without heating up the house.

I composted coffee grounds, tea bags, the core from a head of cauliflower, egg shells and onion skins.

We took advantage of the cooler nights and mornings and opened up the doors and windows.  I also did my watering at this time as well.

I renewed a couple listings on Craiglist for items I have up for sale.

I splurged and bought four used, but in very good condition, DVD sets of Burn Notice, our favorite TV show ever!  Seasons 1 through 4.  I found them on eBay for $20.50 and free shipping.  While little missy is still recuperating I thought we'd have a marathon over 4th of July weekend.

I watched a few TV shows online for free.

How thrifty were you last week?

  1. Not super thrifty as my son had a lacrosse tournament almost 4 hours away which meant 2 nights in a hotel. It is the first time in 18 years the 4 of us all stayed in a hotel. My son's team did terrible but my kid scored and took no penalties...yay!!!

I won a $20 Starbucks card, a $15 Cineplex card and a travel mug at a work function. I only buy Starbucks in the fall as I cannot justify their prices. This card was a nice treat. I loaded it online and got a free (any size) drink of my choice, yay again :).
Started my new position at work today which will mean more money to finally start paying down debt incurred from my husband being sick last year.
I saw Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 as well. My fave show ever is King of Queens so any Kevin James movies make me laugh.
    Enjoy your upcoming Independence Day.

    1. Sounds to me like you had a great week! Congratulations on your winnings. You will enjoy your coffees even more because they are free - ha, ha. I agree, Kevin James is pretty funny.

  2. I redeemed $5 Amazon gift cards from Bing, went to the matinee of a movie, hung clothes out to dry, used a coupon on formula.

    1. Great way to save $$ Jess! Matinees and $1 nights are the only way I can afford to take us all to the theater. There is just nothing quite like the big screen. :)

  3. I had a thrifty week by accident !!! If you remember last week there was an estate sale in my neighborhood and I had my eye on a wingback chair for my living room. Well, the price was NOT right and I didn't buy it. :-(
Thrifty, great news !!! My sister suggested using the wicker chair from my front porch in the living room !!! Why didn't I think of that ?? It's clean, repainted white, has a cushion wrapped in fabric from my stash and looks great with my white IKEA-sofa. Plus it feels cottagey like my home. Now all I have to do is find another cheap wicker chair for the front porch. Shouldn't be too difficult, right ???
    Have a great week.

    1. Great idea! I end up moving pieces too and funny thing, I was contemplating using my porch chair in front of my desk. Still might. Or I'll be on the lookout for another cute chair to redo. Too much fun!!
