This week flew by so fast I could hardly believe it. Not very thrifty either, but then, as we all
know, not all of them are.
I paid an entire year's insurance coverage on the new car and both
girls needed new shoes. The youngest
needed snow boots for an upcoming field trip to the ski resort in January. Fortunately I came across a great sale on the
shoes and boots.
I went to Albertson's and bought another ham at 88¢ a pound for
the freezer. They also had a 10# bag of
potatoes on sale for 99¢ so I grabbed one of those too, along with a gallon of
milk for $1.88, two 10 oz. bags of fresh cut veggies - broccoli &
cauliflower for 2/$3, bananas at 38¢ a pound, a package of crab meat $1.99, a
sirloin steak from the markdown bin for $3.13 and a few other things.
I used the steak for our fajitas on the menu plan. I had one in the freezer but had forgotten to
set it out to thaw so finding the one in the markdown bin was fortunate. Otherwise I would had to swap meals around.
My oldest daughter needed to pick up a few items at the dollar
store so while she shopped I perused the grocery section. It is growing quite a bit and I found a lot
of newer items I hadn't seen before. A
lot of frozen fruit and vegetables that I think I'll be getting next month when
I grocery shop. I did buy three more
bags of dry beans and three 2# bags of long grain rice. Since I was there.
I finished my Christmas gift wrapping using supplies I already had
on hand.
I made up a birthday gift for a friend.
I stitched up a hole in a pair of my daughter's favorite
tights. Now they are good as new.
Saturday we gathered at a friend's home for lunch and an afternoon
of pinochle. I made chicken noodle soup
and a veggie plate to take along. I had
everything I needed already in the kitchen which made it nice and easy.
How thrifty were you last week?
I was pretty thrifty, I made a promise not to let Christmas make me silly!
ReplyDeleteGood for you! I get tempted at the last minute to get extras but that isn't very thrifty is it?
DeleteWe had a 6 pound prime rib for dinner (at $5.50/lb)with Caesar salad. Our thriftiest move was when our daughter purchased over $1,000 of clothing for less than $200! I saved over 50% on a Kitchen Aid mixer. Wonderful Christmas Day!

Fantastic! You did great. What a savings on those clothes and the mixer. I bet that roast was divine. I just love it when things fall into place like that.
