For over a year I tried going without a designated office space in
our house. It was less than ideal. I found as time went on my office supplies
were stored in three different locations and I was having trouble remembering
what was where. Plus my lap was not
really the best location for all of the activities I use a home office for.
I'm one of those people who functions best in well organized
designated activity zones. That's just
the way I am. Even our RV had a tiny and
organized space designated as my office.
So I gave up trying to just make it work and went back to what I know
works best for me.
I have this awkward corner in my living room that is ideal for
setting up my office space. In fact,
that is where my old office space was set up.
Since we moved into the house I tried doing various things with this
corner but in the end it just ended up being a catch-all for crap and an
eyesore to boot. It drove me nuts.
I ordered a simple writing desk with a single drawer in the center. I found it on sale on Cyber Monday for $49 at
Amazon and it was shipped for free. It
is dark wood and matches our dining room table as well as the end tables in the
living room.
The desk is the perfect size for my space. The drawer holds my little desk organizer,
calculator, address book and stamps, etc.
I have plenty of room for my laptop, a pencil organizer, stapler and
tape dispenser. The shelving above the
desk and everything on it are from my old home office set up. I already had the chair too.
I really enjoyed having it all set up for making and addressing my
Christmas cards.
Now our awkward corner looks neat, tidy and functional. It is no longer an eyesore.
Your office space looks great! I love it! I am like that too- I like to have a space that is more or less organized where I can put my thoughts together and get some paperwork, etc. done.
ReplyDeleteAs soon as we moved into our new house I confiscated a strange little triangular corner and declared it my space to put my desk. I love it- it's like a little haven for me at times. :)
Thanks Dawn. We need that don't we? I think so. I sure seem to get a lot done lately in my little corner of the world.
DeleteForm and function meet! It looks fantastic
ReplyDeleteThanks Anne! Appreciate hearing that.

ReplyDeleteThank you Judy. I wanted to keep it simple and functional. I am getting a lot of use out of my new space too.
DeletePerfect! You couldn't have made it more special.
ReplyDeleteThank you my dear. Just the look I was going for too. :)
DeleteLooks great.
ReplyDeleteThanks Theresa! It is proving a nice place to write a blog. :)
ReplyDeleteAs an author, I have to tell you that I love that little office. It has no window to distract you, small enough to help you keep your focus, and organized with everything within arms reach. I am going to downsize and try to mimic this room exactly because it is just what I need to be able to get back on track with my writing.

That office is the perfect size for anyone looking to have some relief from a house full of kids too. I would be able to get some serious work done sitting at that desk knowing everything is right within an earshot of me. That little office could take up the corner of just about any room in the house too.

I got extremely lucky when I moved into my new town and stayed in a rental looking for a new house. I happened to bump into a realtor at the post office, and she was a sweetheart. We got together and she showed me all around the town until my dream house appeared. I believe in fate and positive vibes, good things will happen.
