Last Week's Thrifty Moves

After Sunday breakfast I headed off to Walgreens to pick up a prescription.  Since Fred Meyer is next door I decided to get my grocery shopping done too.  We needed fresh produce and milk.  I was super excited to see the veggie tray I wanted on markdown for $3.99 and milk and orange juice was on sale for 79¢ a half gallon.  Mission accomplished!

The weather has warmed so I unplugged the infrared heater and we stopped using the fireplace.  In fact it has been so nice I've opened the windows each day to allow in the sunshine and fresh air.  Smells so good.

I made a second dresser scarf using up a piece of white muslin and some vintage lace I had.  I embroidered flowers in the corners using an old transfer I've had since I was in high school.  It transferred just enough times.  I filled in the gaps with a pencil.  It was a quick and easy project and I really like how it turned out.

I relisted five items in my Etsy shoppe.  I listed some extra embroidery transfers I had on eBay.

I came down with a terrible head cold.  Again.  You know the kind where there is so much pressure you feel like your face is going to pop off and even your teeth ache.  Thank goodness for Vicks and lotion tissues.  I swear it seems like we just take turns catching stuff and that someone in this house has had something since the middle of February.  Enough already!

With all the illness and crud going on around I got busy and washed all of our bedding, our coats and sweaters, robes, as well as all of our towels and regular laundry.  It has been nice enough outside to open the windows and let in lots of fresh air too.

On the way home from one of my youngest's track meets we popped into Walmart where I bought a huge bag of Polyfil and a crib sized piece of batting for more throw pillows I have in mind.  They have the best price on that stuff right now.

I did some online shopping from my recliner for spice jars.  I think I may have found just the right ones, but I'm still going to look for awhile longer.

With the warmer weather we didn't use any heat or the fireplace.  Our house was plenty comfortable.

I sold two dozen eggs to a friend.  The chickies did their part last week to keep us well supplied and in turn I treated them to plenty of kitchen scraps and some scratch grains.

We returned and borrowed more books from the library.

I treated myself to some new fabric from Hobby Lobby.  We don't live anywhere close to that store so its a bit of a trek but I love their great selection of calico.  Their prices are really good too.  I bought two pieces to make to go with the stenciled quilt panels I bought off eBay last month and another piece with chickens on it.  I'm thinking curtains for my kitchen.

How was your thrifty week?

  1. What a nice week you had! I love that you are able to find those veggie trays on markdown- it looks scrumptious!
I feel exactly like you do about someone here always catching something and everyone passing it around. My kids are huggers and I cringe whenever they get a cold because I know, without a doubt, that I will catch it. (I'd rather get it than give up the hugs!) ;)
The dresser scarf you made is lovely! You've inspired me. I would like to get some transfers- I have a stack of plain linen napkins that I would like to spiff up, so I am going to be on the lookout for some transfers next time I hit the stores! Thank you! :)
Hope you are enjoying some nice weather in your neck of the woods. This week we have all sunny days ahead with Temps in the 50's and the 60's!! Whoo-Hoo!! :)

    1. I won't give up the hugs either. I'm getting sick and tired of being sick and tired though. LOL. I was thinking about making some plain napkins to embroider too, how funny. I've added them to my project list. I want to make placemats too. It is sunny warm and beautiful here. So very nice. Take care my friend!

  2. I would love to be sleeping like your cat right now. I'm exhausted and only had less than 3 hours of sleep last night.

    1. I know it. He had me a little jealous. He was right in the middle of the living room floor too so we all had to walk around him while he snoozed. Silly boy.
