Fabric Bowl Covers

I have been so excited to share my latest project with you because (squeeeeeeeal) I am so in love with these.    They turned out so stinking cute!

Over Labor Day weekend I had way too much fun making myself a set of fabric bowl covers.  I've had this idea rolling around in my head for quite some time of how I wanted to make them and for several weeks I'd mulled around how I was going to put these together. 

I've seen patterns at JoAnns for these bowl covers, but I decided to make my own as it is fairly simple construction.  I used paper from my scrap paper pile and scotch tape to make sheets large enough to draw them out.  I then used plates and a pizza pan as my templates to create small, medium and large sizes to fit each of my three Pyrex mixing bowls.

I perused the internet for fruit and veggie embroidery motifs and printed those out on scrap paper as well.  Then with a pencil I traced those patterns onto muslin I had cut out into the various sizes.  I had a ton of fun embroidering these. 

Once that was done I chose some contrasting fabrics and lace trims from my stash.  I stitched them together and ran a length of stretchy elastic through the casing and that was that.  When I put them on the bowls I nearly lost my mind over how cute these are.  My girls were really impressed with them too.  Aren't they darling?

As I continue to move away from plastic food storage I thought these would be a great option.  I like the idea of them being a bit more breathable than plastic too as sometime excess moisture builds up and make certain things soggy.  And they are totally washable and reusable.

I think there will be several sets of these in my future and how much fun would it be to make these out of all kinds of food themed fabrics.  The possibilities would be endless.  Without the embroidery they are a super quick project too.

And guess what?  They are totally reversible!

Even with the embroidery it doesn't take a whole lot of time and since I love to embroider it was hardly a chore at all.  It is the perfect project for me while watching TV or waiting for an appointment.  That is one nice thing about needlework, it is very portable.

I love the fact that I was able to use up some more of my fabric and trim stash while making something useful.  I also think these would make wonderful gifts too.  I'm kind of toying with the idea of putting a set of these in my Etsy shop.
