My Christmas Goodie List… So Far

I brainstormed the other day to come up with a list of goodies to make at the holidays.  Some are the tried and true that we always seem to do every year and a couple of things I haven't made in years.

Here is my list:

Chewy Gingersnaps - love these!!!
Lemon Bars - love these too!!!
Thumbprint cookies - I fond candied cherries at the dollar store
Gingerbread - haven't made this in forever and my coworkers have requested it
Rum cake - love it but have never made it myself
Sugar cookies - it isn't Christmas without an afternoon spent decorating sugar cookies

Rum Cake

I say "so far" because should we decide to add onto the list or make something else entirely we probably will.  We always seem to anyway.  The list is short as there is always more than enough at the holidays and we do tend to get a little carried away.  This year I'm trying to curb that a bit.

Gingerbread

I like to come up with my list early so I make sure I get everything we need ahead of time.  It is no fun to set out to make lemon bars when you don't have any lemon juice.  Plus having a plan allows me to take advantage and buy the things we need when they are on sale rather than having to pay full price.

Lemon Bars

I have plain white paper plates in the pantry that I plan to use for giving goodies to friends and neighbors.  I had thought about tins or Christmas themed containers but decided to save that money and put it toward ingredients instead.

Cherry Thumbprint Cookies

What are your favorite goodies?  Do you make a list each year?  How much of it do you give away to friends and family?

  1. Oh Yum! I like the variety of flavors in your list. I've never made gingerbread before but I think it's something I'd like to try to make.
I usually stick to the treats that I know everyone wants (and expects!) lol. Chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal raisin cookies, sugar cookies, pumpkin pie, apple raisin cake and I try to add a goodie or two that nobody expects (just to see if they are paying attention! haha.) Maybe this year I'll snag a few recipes from your list- do you have the gingerbread recipe on your blog?
Thanks for sharing your list- it's inspiring just to hear what someone else is making! :)

    1. I like your list too. I don't have the gingerbread posted so I'll try and get it up here shortly.

  2. Your cookies look great. Lemon tea cakes (frosted) are my favorite. They are bite sized and amazing. That said, Q4 (and, particularly the last month of the year) is my busiest time at work, so I typically make cardamom bread to bring with me to our Christmas gathering, and not much else.

  3. I've been thinking about this, too...

    Tasha Tudor's Christmas cake

Sachertorte (this is our family's standard -- I lived in Austria for a summer, and started this, God help me) --

I have to make the Christmas cake now. (It needs to mellow for at least a month for full flavor.)
Also: Russian teacakes (snowballs), thumbprints, sugar cookies, peanut butter balls (coated with chocolate, plus a little wax -- I'm not making this up), pecan tarts.

Could you give your lemon bar recipe?

    1. I believe you about the wax. I've made chocolate covered cherries that used wax in the chocolate. Good ol' Gulf wax. Russian tea cakes sound yummy. Might have to add those to the list. I love them.

  4. Every year I make banana bread along with cranberry orange bread. I did not make enough of the cranberry orange bread to give to everyone one year and my oldest son specifically asked me the next year to please make some for him. ;) I also make homemade candies, Chex Mix and a few cookies.
