What Is With This Cell Phone Obsession?

Saturday morning I walked into the ladies restroom at JC Penney.  Immediately I could tell the woman in the end stall was having a full blown conversation on her cell phone.  While peeing!  I felt that was revolting enough but then... ker splash!

Good Lord!  I'm sorry but when I use the bathroom I really don't feel the need to talk to my buddies while I'm in there.  Why on earth to people do this?  This is not the first time I've noticed this, but really?!  Ewwwww!!

What is so blasted important that people can't wait a few minutes to conduct their business and then leave the restroom to make their phone calls.  Surely the person on the other end of the line can hear the toilets flushing and has to know what is going on.

I was so grossed out I wanted to throw my own cell phone in the trash.  Am I the only one who finds this to be ridiculous behavior?  Have you noticed this as well?  So gross!

  1. At my last office job, somebody was having a phone interview in the bathroom. I didn't bother to change anything - I'm allowed in the bathroom to do my business, maybe you should take your phone interview elsewhere! It was very strange.

    1. I would've been tempted to flush all the toilets several times!

  2. I have noticed it before also and I experienced the yuck factor also.
Word of warning: Son3 had his phone in his pocket once and was pulling his jeans down to (well you know what) his phone fell from his pocket into the toilet) I never keep mine in my pocket while using the bathroom anymore.

    1. I never keep by phone on me but the one time I stuck it in my shirt pocket I bent over to scrub the toilet and yep, you guessed it. Out it fell right into the Comet water. No coming back from that one.

  3. At my previous job, I had 4 younger coworkers, all intelligent college graduates.
And I kid you not, they all 4 dropped their cell phones in the work toilet at least once. All 4! You'd think they would of learned by example. And this was a workplace where they could use their cellphones most anytime. There was no need to use them in the bathroom.

    1. I have a few co-workers that used to take their phones in the restroom, but we told them to knock it off. Take it outside.

  4. It has reached the ridiculous and gross point when you can't put down your cell phone to use the restroom. People are so addicted to them. Nothing annoys me more than being in a checkout line and the person in front of me can't even concentrate on paying for their purchase because they are talking on or staring at their phone.

    1. I agree, or they block the aisle while you are shopping because they are so distracted. It makes me sad too when you go to a restaurant and the whole family is on their phones and not paying attention to each other. My friends know not to answer their phones when we are out to dinner or even lay it on the table. It is another one of my sore spots.

  5. This is not even a concern of mine. I don't care who uses their phone as long as it does not hinder me. I do chuckle since the bathroom amplifies everything. I just figure and hope they know the person well that is on the other end. Using a cell phone and holding up a line bothers me more. I will take a long distance call while in line.

    1. That is just plain rude too. I think this whole lack of cell phone etiquette has gotten way out of hand. I'm sorry, but no one is that damned important that they need to go to the bathroom with me. That's a bunch of crap! Pun intended :)

  6. This not being able to put the phone down is also leading to so much danger on our roads. I put mine in the back seat so I'm not even tempted, but so many people are trying to text and drive. It's irresponsible and selfish. That people are so willing to put bikers, peds and other drivers at risk for immediate gratification says a lot about our society these days.

    1. I am totally with you there. I hate my phone. I ignore it 99% of the time and the ringer usually stays on vibrate.

  7. I agree...there is a time and a place to make phone calls and a public restroom is not one of them.

  8. Yesterday while out running errands I got the phone call every parent dreads...Dustin (son) was in a wreck...go there immediately (I was across town in 3 minutes). He was sitting at a redlight and watched in his mirror as the lady in the car behind him smashed into the back of his car while on the phone. No one was hurt (thank you Lord). Her insurance will pay for the damage but it was a hard way to learn a lesson.

    1. I'm so glad to hear your son is okay. I was rear ended on the way to work one morning, same thing. I watched her do it in my rear view mirror too.

    2. Update: The car was repaired. Then when I went to drive it and needed to back up, he freaked! Watch where you are going, watch out, be careful, slow down. YIKES. He said I could wreck the front but not the back because the back was new.
      I made him drive.
