My Grocery Budget 2017 - December Update

Amazingly, it is already time for me to post our monthly grocery spending.  Seems like I just got done doing that and here we are again.  And it is the last grocery post of 2017!

Trader Joes

It was a pretty good month for me as I didn't need to do a whole lot of grocery shopping.  We were well stocked and ready for a little holiday baking and some pretty fantastic meals.

Winco

Our nonfood items were comprised of cat food, cat litter and toilet paper.  Total spent came in at $21.51.  I've got no complaints about that!

My big Winco haul

Most of my food shopping was done to resupply us with fresh produce and some dairy items as well as to fill in a few gaps in the pantry.  My biggest grocery haul was a trip to Winco and I managed to skate out of there with only a $50 bill!  That actually surprised me.

Here is all the food I bought this month:

  1. Curious about the non food items budget. I usually have to buy body lotion, deodorant at least monthly. Add toilet paper, soap, toothpaste, laundry detergent etc and it will go way over $25. How do you keep it so low?

    1. I get a lot of our lotions and soaps free or as gifts. I buy a lot of stuff at the $ Store and when I Often find sales and coupons to get things for really cheap. I'll try and focus more on that this next year so you all get a better idea how I keep it so low.

  2. I want to track spending on groceries this year. Always say I'll do it and then get lazy. lol. Going into the new year with a pretty stocked freezer, pantry and refrigerator so want to focus my grocery dollars on loss leaders, sales, coupons and clearance. I manage to keep stocked up if I focus on these things and just add produce and other perishables as needed. We have a Dollar Tree and a .99 Cent Only Store near us and the second store has a pretty good produce section. Just have to hit it Tue. through Friday to get the fresh just stocked produce. Looks like we better have a turkey the 2nd or 3rd week in Jan. as we have three in the freezer. At .28 cents a lb. at Thanksgiving we couldn't pass these up but I need the room now and we haven't had one since Nov. One year I cooked 9 turkeys. Guess I was hungry for turkey that year. lol
    Take care.

    1. I get the lazy aspect of tracking grocery $$ as I sometimes find it tedious, however in the end it is also very helpful. Your brocery goals sound a lot like mine. I wish we had a 99 cent Only store. I love the produce bargains there.
