Happy New Year
everyone! It is 2018! Can you even believe it?!
I had a three day
weekend for Christmas and it was so nice.
I came home, parked the car in the driveway and never left. I stayed
home and it was marvelous! There is
just nothing quite like just simply enjoying your home for a few days, and at
Christmas nonetheless! It was the best!
On Christmas Eve I relaxed
and worked on craft projects all day! I didn't even shower and get dressed until
noon. We had a nice breakfast, listened
to Christmas music and just hung out.
Our traditional supper of homemade clam chowder was delicious and then
we pulled out A Christmas Carol from
our DVD collection and watched that before bed.
All the while it was snowing outside and picture perfect.
On Christmas Day I
woke up to three inches of freshly fallen snow.
I made a coffee cake from scratch and put that in the oven just as the
girls were getting up. We opened gifts,
enjoyed a nice breakfast and then I did what I love to do. Went through all the gift wrap stuff on the
floor and recycled. I collected tissue,
bags, bows and gift boxes. All other
trash fit nicely inside a standard size plastic grocery bag. I feel pretty okay about that! Better yet, our recycle bin is full!
We wheeled that to the curb on Thursday for collection.
Gift boxes, tissue paper and gift bags to be reused |
And some bows and ribbons too! |
Wednesday I got an
ad in the mail saying I could lock in a lower internet price for life. Since they had just raised our monthly rate again I called and sure enough. Not only was I able to lower our bill by $25
a month, but they are increasing our speed from 40 mbps to 60 mbps at no
additional cost. Okay!!
Our Christmas morning coffeecake |
We prepared all of
our meals from items we already had on hand.
I did not do any grocery shopping or any other shopping for that
matter. I can officially declare this
past week was a no spend week! Yay!
Here is a gratuitous kitty cat shot 😏 |
Other than driving
to and from work on Tuesday through Friday we didn't go anywhere either so fuel
use was minimal. I ended the year with a
half tank of gasoline in the car and a full tank in our truck. I'm pretty happy about that.
I made four New Years greeting cards to send to relatives I regularly keep in touch with, I found and printed off a vintage image to use on the front. |
Saturday was another
day spent working on craft projects. I
was able to use up some of my paper stock that I've had for years as well as
recycle the Christmas cards we received this year and a pretty envelope that
one of them came in. I'll be sharing
with you what I was working on very soon in an upcoming post. You will love it!
How was your final thrifty week of 2017?
Awesome news about the internet change. We live in such a rural area, we do not have many options. I wish something like your deal would come our way.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have many options here either so I was pretty excited!
DeleteSounds like a great week. We had family in so I had to get up and running all during the Christmas week. I am ready fro some down time now!
ReplyDeleteYou deserve it. Enjoy!
DeleteLooks like a fabulous & relaxing holiday. We were spending time with family & made a few frugal moves: packed lunch before we headed to the airport yesterday, brought leftover produce home with us, & avoided eating out on our vacation. All in all, a win!
ReplyDeleteGood for you! Sounds like a win to me!
