Sunday I began my
day with the usual. I made a fresh pot
of coffee, sat down with my laptop to check my emails and post on my blog, then
started a load of and made up my bed with freshly laundered sheets. Simple things that bring me joy.
I baked a loaf of
wheat bread and a large pan of fudgy brownies from scratch.
I took the last of
the pot roast and chopped it up and put it in my slow cooker with sliced
mushrooms, pasta sauce, garlic and dried basil.
I let it cook on low all day before adding cream and cooking up some
spaghetti. I also made a spinach salad
using up leftover black olives and leftover feta cheese.
Monday morning I
woke up early and couldn't get back to sleep so I gave up and started my
day. Using my computer I printed out a
sheet of return address labels for mailing bills and letters. Each sheet has 80 labels on it so this should
last me for a very long time. I also
worked on some sentiments for paper crafting and did a little writing before I
left for work.
I put the leftover egg nog in the freezer to use later on down the road |
Tuesday was another
three hour robotics meeting so I picked up the young one from cheerleading
practice (with her dinner packed) and I dropped off the older one and we held
up at the library until it was time to pick her up. As usual I took my laptop, found a quiet
corner and did some much needed writing while my youngest ate her dinner, did
her homework and read a book. Work has
been really hectic so it is nice to have this downtime and my youngest
absolutely loooves the library. We did
the same thing again on Thursday when she had her next meeting.
In between errands and activities I've been going through my scraps and making more things to share with all of you - stay tuned! |
Friday evening after
I dropped of the oldest at her high school for a basket ball game I headed off
to the salon for my "annual" haircut.
I've decided this year to go back to a good simple cut, no more highlights
and do my own maintenance with periodic ban trims at home. I thought it would be a good way to test out
something for when I hit the road in Laverne eventually.
I used my credit card rewards points for a $50 gift card |
You all know I've
been purging and cleaning and I wanted this year to add a few items to my work
wardrobe to replace some of what I've let go.
I took a $50 gift card to Dillards and used that to purchase my annual
pair of work pants and a really pretty Calvin Klein top I found on a clearance
rack. After the gift card I only paid
$16 out of pocket for a good pair of slacks and a gorgeous designer top. I left the store with a little spring in my
step.
Saturday afternoon
on the way home from picking up my oldest from her all day robotics workshop we
stopped in at the dollar store so she could get a few things she needed. I found three packages of pearl
embellishments I'd been hoping to find.
I was so excited to see them in stock.
I will be using these on some upcoming projects I have planned. I am having so much fun crafting lately.
Don't forget this
week I am sharing my first Christmas Project A Month post. I really hope you guys like it. I had a ton of fun putting it together for
you. And there is a giveaway at the end
of the post too! So don't miss out on
that one.
How was your thrifty
week?
Yum! brownies! I hear you on the low maintenance hair... I recently cut mine short and let the color grow out. The short hair requires more frequent haircuts and I don't like the gray... ha! I must figure out a different plan now. I'm looking forward to your Christmas post!
ReplyDeleteYeah, we'll see how much I like the grey. Ha!
DeleteRare winter weather yielded me a couple of snow days this past week. I was able to stay home and do things around the house with the girls. One was healing from the flu so I did a lot of extra washing.
ReplyDeleteI continue to organize my fabric, I am almost done. I started another quilt project that I am working on. As soon as it is finished I have two quilts in progress from the previous couple of years I plan to finish.
I am constantly reviewing my finances. I am trying hard to not let anything unexpected slip up on me although it is bound to happen. As soon as I run across something (like I found out yesterday about a youth fundraiser/outing at church) I put it on the list. Hopefully this will help cover the needs. When you have a tight income planning is a MUST. Your binders are a great idea.
Sounds like you've been busy. Hope you are feeling better. I agree with you about the tight buget. The more I can plan ahead the better off we are.
DeleteCan't wait to see what you have planned to craft for Christmas! Looking forward to it. Most of what I make is edible and closer to christmas but what to try my hand at a few sewing projects this year. One is bag holders for those plastic bags we all get at the store. Saw some cute ones made with dish towels and the other is Wolf Pack (University of Reno Nevada) pillows. They don't sell Wolf Pack material but I was given some awesome t-shirts with the logo on them. So we will see. I'm not super crafty but do also make candy bar bouquets and other fun stuff like peppermint bark. Take care.
ReplyDeleteYou sound like you are pretty crafty! Love all of your ideas.
DeleteI stopped having my hair colored at the salon years ago now - I think since around 2007 as I just couldn't justify the cost any longer! I haven't missed it at all. That was around the time I examined every little bit of our expenses and shopped around for the best prices on EVERYTHING (and got rid of a lot of those expenses too). Since then, I color my hair at home. I still get my hair trimmed about every 4 months but I found a hair salon that only charges $20 per cut (and I give her a $5 tip). I don't get any other services like shampooing, just a simple classic cut that I don't have to do any styling with at home - just wash and go. I like low maintenance :)
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling you'll be happy forgoing the highlights and keeping it simple too :)
D.
I think I will too. Thanks for the encouragement. :)
DeleteI, too, color my hair myself (don't tell anyone). I buy my supplies from Dollar General (best prices) when they have the $5 off $25 coupon promotion. It seems my gray is getting worse and so my roots are showing sooner. My solution has been to move to a lighter color so my roots are less obvious.
ReplyDeleteGetting old is not easy.

LOL, no it is not!
