Sowing More Seeds

Last weekend I tended to my seed pots I have set up in laundry room.  I have a lamp set up to give them light and so far everything I've planted has come up with one exception.  The egg plant.  I'm fine with that to honest, I'm not that big of a fan of eggplant anyway.

Tomatoes and peppers

I added more soil to the pots so my starts won't get too leggy and spindly and then I filled up a half dozen more pots to plant more seeds.  I planted cucumber, cantaloupe, watermelon and pumpkin seeds I already had on hand.

Even some flowers

I'm hoping this weekend the weather will be cooperative and I'll be able to get outside and work on the preparing the garden beds.  We've had quite a bit of rain lately and even some snow.  I'd like to get the peas planted.

Melon & cucumber seeds planted

So far this year I have spent less than $4.oo on gardening supplies for potting soil at Fred Meyer and a package of seed pots from the dollar store.  I'll probably spend a bit more on supplies to fix up the garden beds, but my goal is to keep it pretty minimal as far as expenses go.  I'm going to try and use a lot of stuff I already have on hand around here.

Not a bad start start so far

That's my update so far.  I haven't killed anything!  Not yet, anyway.

  1. Eggplants take forever to germinate, then they grow slow, then they only like HOT weather. The ones you grow at home will not taste like the bitter ones in the grocery because you will pick them earlier and more tender, not bigger for transport. There are other varieties available which have an almost sweet flavor. If you like growing them, I will send you some seeds.

    1. Maybe if I grow one I'll like them better. I'll keep trying. I'd love to try your seeds, thank you! I'll get in touch. ;)

  2. The key is getting them to harden off before getting them in the ground. I use old window screens on the first days they go in the ground as the sun will be too much at first. Works like a charm.

    1. That's a really good idea. I think I have a couple of those too. Thanks.
