Last Week's Thrifty Moves

Sunday the girls and I finished up the second half of the kitchen cabinets.  It went just as well as it had the day before with the first half and once completed we all three jumped into hyperdrive to clean up everything.  Not only did we manage to put away all of our tools and supplies, but we got our weekend chores done too in only thirty minutes!  That was some serious hop to!

Tuesday I did a little thrift shopping on the way home from work.  I found a brand new full sized ironing board so I bought it.  The little portable one we had in our travel trailer works nicely but I'd prefer a full size one to use in the house.  I'll move the small one out to Laverne so I have it to use when I'm on the road and working on crafts or sewing.

On the way home from work on Wednesday I did a little grocery shopping at Albertsons picking up only items on sale as well as three packages of steaks from the markdown bin.  I put the butter ($1.98 each) in the freezer for later.  I fixed some of the asparagus for dinner that night with and it was wonderful!

Thursday the girls took me to ShopKo for a little early Mother's Day shopping.  Their ad had some really good prices on bedding plants so they had me pick out three four packs of flowers that were on sale for 3/$5.  While I was there I picked up some soil, compost (we needed extra) and mulch for the garden beds.  Again on sale, the soil and compost were $2.47 a bag and the mulch was 3/$9.

On the way home we headed to Home Depot to pick up some supplies I needed for my next small home improvement project and then right next door to Fred Meyer to pick up some grocery items they had on sale in their ad.  At Home Depot I returned the roller I didn't need for the kitchen cabinets for a $5 dollar refund making my cabinet projects cost less than $3!  Hurray!

I ended up doing a much larger shop at Fred Meyer than I had intended as they had a lot of loss leaders this time.  I stocked up on five jars of salsa (99¢ a jar), 5 packages of flour tortillas and 5 bags of tortilla chips (99¢ each), plus produce on sale or markdown and meat on markdown.  Two pounds of large shrimp for $9.98!  I also used a gob of digital coupons I had downloaded to my rewards card that morning.

Markdowns!

After work on Friday I headed straight home to play in the dirt and gave one of my flowerbeds an overhaul.  After dinner I did a little touch up paint on the downstairs bathroom cabinets before I sat down and paid bills.  When I finished I redeemed some rewards points I'd saved up for a $50 Home Depot gift card.  I'll be putting that one to very good use!

A super sweet friend of mine sent me a gift card to Trader Joes.  That seriously made my day!

Saturday morning I was up bright and early and outside back in the dirt.  I got another flowerbed redone and planted all of the pretty plants my daughter got me on Thursday.  I figured out what my next step was and headed back to ShopKo for more supplies.  Then after we all had breakfast we ended up back outside and tackled another flowerbed.

And then it was time to get ready for the prom.....  more to come later or this post will be a mile long.

How was your thrifty week?
