Last Week's Thrifty Moves

We just wrapped up the 26th week of 2018!  Meaning, we've officially completed the first half of the year.  Can you believe that?  I sure can't.  Once again I find myself wondering where has the time gone.

After a really busy week I was a little bit tired out by the time Sunday rolled around.  So, I gave myself permission to take a day off.  Well, as much of a day off as I could have anyway.  Other than a load of laundry I really didn't have much in the way of chores to do as we had jumped ahead on Saturday and got our Sunday chores done early.  So instead I did a little meal prep, only two entrees this time, and a huge garden salad.  I also divided up a huge package of chicken breasts for the freezer.  The rest of the day was spent hanging out with my girls, watching a movie and doing some writing.  Perfect!

Fortunately the only busyness for me was at the first part of the week.  I had one long day, which was Tuesday where I worked from 7:00 in the morning until 9:00 that night.  Once again I appreciate the overtime pay, my next paycheck is going to be very nice, but boy those have been some long and tiring days.  Now that I've changed departments and moved into my new position those long work days are happily behind me.

I got coupons for free cat food in the mail
Wednesday was my last day at my old job.  I had been purging and cleaning my desk so it was an easy task to pack up what was left, set it all in my chair and wheel it on over to my new desk.  I have about a week of training ahead of me and then I'm on my own.  Still close enough to enjoy my previous co-workers and yet no longer sitting next to and dealing with the "big meanie" anymore.  Yabba Dabba Doo!

Leftover sirloin and salad combined

When I got up Thursday morning I had an extra hour to get to work so I got busy and dusted the dining room (Thursday is dining room day) and ran the vacuum cleaner downstairs.  It was nice to come home knowing my chores were done and dinner, leftover sirloin steak, was in the refrigerator for supper too.  I just fixed a quick salad, reheated the steak and sliced it up and we were good to go!

Friday morning, same thing.  I got my chores done before work.  I think I'm going to really like my new hours.  Amazing what all you can do with an extra hour in the morning.  Good thing because  Saturday I had a true day off and didn't do a darned thing.

I didn't do any grocery shopping last week.

Fresh homemade pico de gallo

We gave our kitchens scraps to the chickens and I picked them a big pile of milk weeds which they love.

We composted coffee grounds, egg shells and onion skins.  I set out a little bit of trash for collection at the curb, but a very full recycle bin and a gallon of motor oil to recycle as well.  I'm really glad we have a recycling program for motor oil.

I rinsed out a laundry detergent bottle with a little bit of water so we used up every bit of it before I put the empty bottle in the recycle bin.

How was your thrifty week?

  1. I am happy that you will no longer having to work extended hours. It becomes a burden quickly.

  2. Now that you're officially transferred, I think you should make a point to sweetly inform the "big meanie" about your transfer...as if she doesn't know about it. (People of that ilk generally make it their business to find out about everything, nosey-style.) Wish her well in her own pursuits, and emphasize how much you look forward to being with this new group/learning more/more productive...it will absolutely drive her CRAZY!!!!

And it will feel incredibly satisfying, to be kind to someone who's treated you so badly. Trust me on this -- it will feel wonderful.

    1. I can one up you on this. She congratulated me on my new position and was pretty smug about it. I thanked her and since then have let her watch as everyone else found out about it and got really upset about my departure. They're still boo hooing about it today. And it is driving her nuts! I'm not saying a word, but I confess I am enjoying it. :)
