Last Week's Thrifty Moves

Sunday morning I sent my oldest off for a two week vacation with her boyfriend and his family.  If ever there was a time to get to know his family, it is now as she is going to be spending time with a bunch of them.  Knowing what a little social butterfly she is she is destined to have a good time.

That afternoon I finished my latest painting project.  Gorgeous!  That's the best word I have to describe it.  Just simply gorgeous!   My youngest joined me and we knocked it out in about four hours.  She is a super duper project helper and I really appreciated having her on board.  It was a lot of work but we are both quite proud of what we accomplished.  I posted about that this past Friday.

My best helper!

Monday I headed back to work so I could rest, ha, ha.  But by Tuesday we were back in project mode because something we had ordered ten days ago had arrived!  Whoo hoooooooo!  I'm so excited about it and even more excited to get to share it with you.  So stay tuned for that post coming up on Wednesday.

Before I left for work on Wednesday morning I finished up the project we started on Tuesday and then we got to do what I was dying to do.  Start putting the furniture back!  Ten days with no living and dining room was a little bit rough, but the payoff is HUGE!  I am so in love with my house right now.  Finally, it is looking how I always dreamed it could.  So very pretty!

We love our new paint scheme

That evening was our company summer picnic so we went to that for a little more than an hour, ate dinner and then came back home to work on our house some more.  I've been taking my time putting things back together cleaning as I go.  Pulling up the carpet made for a lot of dust and yuck everywhere and I want to make sure I get every bit of it cleaned up.

We set out the rest of the old living room carpet and all of the padding at the curb and the garbage man collected all of it Thursday morning.  He had collected what we set out the week before too.  I'm really happy about that for several reasons.  It has saved me a trip to the dump for one, secondly it saved me having to pay dump fees, plus we already pay a lot for trash service so I feel like I'm getting my money's worth, ha, ha.  I'm very happy to have it gone too.

Thursday morning I hung our artwork back up on the living room walls.  That evening when I got home from work I had some friends stop by to check out my progress so far.  After they left I spent about forty five minutes to complete another project.  I'm on a roll this week!  No idea where all this energy is coming from, but I like it!

Friday morning I was up with the chickens, literally.  By sun up I had the living room window washed, inside and out, and the curtain rod brackets reinstalled.  Then I got the freshly laundered drapes hung back up.  You know, there is nothing quite like looking out a spotlessly clean window.  The living room pillows got laundered that morning too and once they were dried and fluffed I put them back in their places.  Such a lovely space for us to live in and enjoy.  I can hardly wait to show you all what we've done.

Last weeks huge grocery haul

Saturday morning the youngest and I were right back into project mode.  This time more demolition.  The progress continues!

I didn't do much in the way of shopping last week picking up a few items at Fred Meyer since we were there looking for something else.

I picked some snow peas from the garden.

Our little girls have started laying.  Yippeeee!

Although it has been hitting the triple digits this past week we've managed to keep the house cool.  Every morning I open all of the downstairs windows and set a box fan at the back door to blow in nice cool air.  Then close everything back up before the temperatures start to climb.  By noon we turn on the A/C upstairs and it keeps it pretty comfortable.

How was your thrifty week?

  1. It was a good week for us. We sold a few things (sofa, portable a/c, and some kids toys they'd grown out of). Total earned was $355! Feeling good about that. We also did our normal meal prep, leftover eating, etc. We had a barbecue this weekend & spent a bit more than intended due to some poor planning, so back to closer monitoring of the grocery bills.

    1. Good job on the sales! It's nice when you can sell stuff you no longer want and make a little $$.

  2. I assume you put some sort of flooring over the painted subfloor.

    1. What?! You don't love our painted subfloor? It's two colors! LOL I wasn't in love with it either, but I sure love the floor now! ;)

  3. Great thrifty week! Is that your pear tree in the first photo? That's something I wouldn't mind having. We had to cut down our diseased old apple tree this summer, but we're replacing it with trees my husband ordered when I was away (so no pears, lol). We may still have room for a pear yet, if I can convince him to get rid of the big ugly bush in front of our house...

Your huge grocery haul looks like mine! We only needed milk, bread, cheese, and coffee creamer this past week. Makes for a nice, simple grocery trip!

  7. It is nice to have a good helper. It all looks great and clean. I was looking at a dirty bathroom window and horrified how dirty it is. However, the curtain has a rod at top and bottom, so it is never opened to look out. I might get more light if the window were clean.

    1. Thank you Linda. She has been the best helper, especially in the past two weeks. We've had some fun working together too.

Now that you mention your bathroom window it reminds me to look at the one in our laundry room. We don't mean to ignore these things, but it happens.
