My Grocery Budget 2018 - September Update

Let's face it.  I may not be all that great at sticking to a $20 a week grocery challenge, but I still think I did a great job this month anyway.  My total spent came in super low and I was able to get a lot for the money I spent.  I stocked up on a few items, did a big fall meal prep and even got started on gathering a few items to set aside for Christmas baking.  It seems like once September rolls around I'm ready to start baking again.

Our non food items this month included more tissues on sale, stocking up on cat food that was on sale and of course with that comes the need for litter as well.  I had two 75¢ coupons for the litter.

Here is what I bought this month for food:

I think I did a pretty good job this month and I think I more than made up for what I overspent last month.  How did you do with your grocery shopping goals?  What great buys did you find?

This budget month runs from September 1 through September 30

  2. That is really incredible. Great work! I'm over by about $40 this month, but did some stocking up due to a great deal on some freezer items for the kids. All in all, I'll take it. September was pretty crazy for us, and we mostly stayed the course with not a lot of eating out.

    1. $40 isn't bad at all. Especially since you were able to stock up.

  3. I think you do a great job at keeping your grocery costs down. There is only 2 of us and we don't do this good. Now that we are on one income I need to do better. Will you move to NC to help? LOL

  4. You should be proud of yourself! Stocking up, and still coming in that low. Wow. I went back and looked at your Sept. 2017 report, and you came in nearly $75 under that this year. Most people are spending more, not less.
I did okay, thanks to Safeway's stock-up sale on canned goods, but I did buy scallops (on sale, for the Christmas Seven Fish Dishes) and filet mignon (for Son #1's October birthday). I have never bought fm before, but it was on sale, and only a few bucks a pound more than steak.
Headed to Michigan soon, where I hope to come home with my suitcase filled with apples.

    1. Thank you Cindy. There have been some really good sales lately. That is wonderful that you have a head start on your Christmas groceries already. Filet mignon is wonderful. Enjoy!

  6. You did a fantastic job! We didn't do as well as I would have liked, so there is always room for improvement me.

    1. That's how I felt last month. This month I feel better about it, but I'm still looking for ways to spend less.
