My inspiration to get started! |
Day one I filled up a 32 gallon trash bag with paper trash we collected from opening gifts. I reorganized the gift wrap tote and added worn out and smashed bows, tissue wrap and some bedraggled gift bags to the trash bag. Then I made my way through the entire house and emptied trash cans and other odds and ends I found until that bag was completely stuffed. I gave each girl a grocery bag and they filled them up with trash from their own rooms so our first day was very successful. Three bags just like that!
Lots of stuff leaving the house |
Even our pantry got overhauled - 3 times! |
So much better! |
My shred pile. Gone! |
I filled up a grocery bag with notebooks and legal pads I did not want or need and took them into work to be used there. I also filled up another bag of food items we did not need or want, mostly cookies and candy, and taking that into work as well.
I loved this challenge, but didn't do so well after falling down the stairs and being in pain for a good 2 weeks. I did take 3 large garbage bags full of items to the thrift store before then. I'm gonna continue this challenge until the end of February. Heck, I might just do it year round to try and stay on top of clutter :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, so sorry to hear about your fall. Glad you are doing better.
DeleteThat's a lot of stuff! Nice work. I didn't participate, but I try to make decluttering a regular part of our life. I cleaned out a bunch of photo clutter, organized paperwork, shredded old tax returns, etc. I try to keep up on the closets about once a month, & there's always something!
ReplyDeleteNice! It is crazy how we can always find something to get rid of.
DeleteWoohoo!!! Great job, that's impressive! I have an enormous pile for the thrift store right now, but I'm waiting until the weather clears. I have zero desire to make 50 trips in and out of the house when it's this cold (I live in one of those 'HERE COMES THE POLAR VORTEX!!!' areas; basically all of life will be shut down tomorrow, haha, and we've got a good ten inches of snow on the ground). Once that pile is gone, I'll start a new one. I've decluttered all the cabinets, and I'll get to the pantry soon. :)
ReplyDeleteGood job Stephanie! I don't blame you for not wanting to take all that stuff outside. Brrrrrr.
DeleteI ended up with 5 bags of trash and 4 bags for the thrift store. Considering I'm recovering from a broken arm I am quite happen with what I accomplished and ready to do more. You did a really good job!
ReplyDeleteWowza! I am super impressed. Hope your arm is mending well and you make a full recovery. Take care Claudia and thank you for the atta boy. :)
DeleteI have been waiting until Feb to start mine as this month is crazy busy for me at work. So I will begin mine now which includes some craft supplies that have to go which were in bins that I haven't touched in years. I am sure someone will enjoy painting them right? I don't have time anymore for multiple hobbies, quilting & needlework is more than enough. I am trying to scrap my pictures too so I don't need to keep anything else. I should more than hit the 30 bag target once I start hitting all those old supplies plus my house. So I will let you know how I am doing this next month.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great plan. I am looking forward to your report. I'm sure you'll knock it out of the park. Good luck and happy purging!
DeleteYou did much, much better than me, but I am working on it. This morning I will head to the library and donate two grocery bags of books to the Friends of the Library. And as far as decluttering go, you are my shining star to follow. Your home must look (and feel) wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI admit it really does feel pretty wonderful. I'm sure you are doing really well and all those books to donate. Wow! Good work Tana!
DeleteYou did good! I decluttered a bit today but only had expired medicines to toss and a couple plastic cutting boards that have seen better days. I'm going to replace them with wood ones and see how durable they are.
ReplyDeleteI totally get how your daughter is sleeping better after decluttering, I feel the same way. It's like a cleansing exercise not only for your surroundings, but for the brain as well!
D.
Good job on your decluttering as well. I agree with you. A clear space quiets the mind and is very calming. I am much more relaxed when my house is in order, that is for sure.
DeleteI love reading about the three of you working together to reach your goals. I've been decluttering my house for about 2 years so it's rare for me to have much to get rid of. A place in the town where I work asked for warm coats and other items for the homeless and low income folks who visit their store...luckily I had 3 LLBean coats I was saving to sell on FB so bundled those up with lots of socks to donate...this must have been the reason I never got around to selling them...
ReplyDeleteKelley that is wonderful. It was meant to be. Those are really nice coats too and you know the socks will be put to good use as well. Good job!
