The Standard American Diet - S.A.D.



I wrote a post for my other blog and decided I want to share it here too.  I think it is important enough to talk about because it concerns me greatly.  I feel pretty strongly that if we don't do something sooner, rather than later we are destined for a pretty rough time of it.

  1. I agree that the standard American diet is sad. If you look at the longest living, least amount of disease in cultures (per capita), it is the Okinawans (and Japanese), and Mediterranean areas. Their staples are plants and seafood. Also, while Asian diets are among the healthiest in general (much more vegetables that American diet), they contain a lot of soy, so some information I've gathered from different resources is conflicting when researching about the benefits of soy.

    My mother is 96 years old, and suffers no ailments except for a touch of arthritis. She has never had any type of disease. She was taught through her culture (Korean) that food is medicine and she has eaten that way her whole life. Her garden mostly consists of dark green and root vegetables, some fruits and herbs that she eats daily along with other good habits like not eating many processed foods, low sugar, and so on. I can see parallels in the keto lifestyle.

    1. Sounds like you have a very smart mama. I try and stay away from the soy myself. My only regret is not going keto sooner, much sooner. Have a wonderful day!

    1. If I could've gone back 5 years to when I was first encouraged to start it just think where I'd be now. My own dumb fault.
