Last Week's Thrifty Moves

Sunday I was in full project mode.  It all started with a bike trailer I found on Craigslist and went from there.  I had a lot of fun stripping it down to the frame, pulling the tires off of the wheels, cleaning everything up and then putting it all back together again to make it into something new.

Gotta love those Craigslist finds!

After work on Monday the girls and I went grocery shopping and stopped in at Walmart to pick up a new bike lock and a plastic tote for the bike trailer.  I'm going to start working on it again soon and I am accumulating a few inexpensive items to add on and accessorize.  I'll be sharing those updates when I am finished.

Stocked up on meat I found on markdown

Tuesday was $1 movie night.  My youngest and I headed over to see A Dog's Journey (yes, we both teared up a bit) and we thoroughly enjoyed it.  Total spent going out to the movies, just $2!

When I got home on Wednesday the girls and I hurried up and got some yard work done so we didn't have to do that over the holiday weekend.  We mowed, trimmed, raked, pulled weeds and swept our sidewalk and driveway.  Once that was done I set up the sprinklers and got the watering done.

Gorgeous day for a hike

Thursday was Independence Day and I had the day off from work.  We began our day with a hike in the Military Reserve which was absolutely lovely.  The rest of our day was spent in car maintenance mode before heading over to a family BBQ and fireworks.  We made a tray of deviled eggs to take to the BBQ.

Loads and loads of wild flowers

I took a vacation day from work on Friday to make a nice long four day weekend.  We were back in car maintenance/project mode again for most of the day.  Saturday we were able to pretty much wrap up the work on our cars and declare those projects complete.  I'll be sharing more details of all that we did starting tomorrow.  These were some pretty big projects.

This girl is in the process of getting a serious makeover

Once all the projects were completed and we got cleaned up we had ourselves a lovely little BBQ to celebrate all that we had accomplished.  Grilled steaks, a big salad and corn on the cob.  It was very nice.

Sirloin steaks & a nice big salad

I went online to Tracfone.com and renewed my cell phone service for another 90 days.  I also used a promo code I found to add an extra 60 minutes of talk time.  Total spent for plenty of minutes, data and text messages came in at $25.79.  That is pretty darn good for three months of cell service.

I rinsed out the laundry detergent jug and was able to use up every last bit of soap to wash a load of clothes.  I also used up every last bit of face cream in the tube I'd cut open a few weeks ago.

We fed the chickens lots of good kitchen scraps which they always appreciate.

I washed up some quart sized Ziploc bags to reuse.

Some of the 15 Minute Chores I accomplished to keep my home in order:

Laundry Room & Half Bathroom - vacuumed floors, cleaned sink & toilet.  Daily swish & swipe.

Dining Room - vacuumed & mopped floor, dusted shelves and chair rail.

Kitchen -  vacuumed & mopped floor, wiped down microwave and appliances.

Bedrooms & Main Bathroom - vacuumed & dusted.  My oldest cleaned the bathroom.  Daily swish & swipe.

Other - two loads of laundry, vacuumed & dusted living room, hallway & entry.

How was your thrifty week?

  2. You are always working on such interesting projects! For us, ours were mostly travel related (we drove from the Oregon coast to our house in the bay area). We brought back leftover food in our cooler, I packed food for breakfast in the car, etc.
