Caring For Our Pets & Saving My $$

Our pets are a big part of our family and we cannot imagine life without them.   Even our chickens are special to us as you've probably already figured out.  They are well fed and well cared for but we don't do anything over the top really.  I find that by keeping things simple we manage to give our pets the best life possible.  It must be working because they seem to live long and healthy lives.

When it comes to feeding them I try, like with everything else, to find the best quality for the least amount of money possible.  I shop around and stock up when I find what I want on sale and I use coupons whenever possible to lower the prices even more.  I know for me that Fred Meyer has the best price on litter and usually dry cat food, Wal-Mart has the best price on canned cat food and the feed store has the best prices on chicken feed, bunny food and most of our supplies.

Cat litter boxes are ridiculously expensive for what they are so I made my own.  We built our own chicken coop and continue to modify and expand as our flock has grown.  Our pet carriers and even the food dishes have come from thrift stores.  At Christmas time we get cat toys at the dollar store for our kitties and the bunny. We sell our extra eggs to earn money for chicken feed and supplies which helps a lot too.

Love and good nutrition are the best things you can give your pets

Veterinary care is all handled at the clinic at the Humane Society.  I've tried other veterinarians on the area and we like the clinic the best.  The staff is wonderful, our kitties get the care they need and the fees are much more reasonable than a standard vet.  We always make sure our kitties are neutered or spayed, the bunny is going to be as well, and we do our best to take really good care of them.

And a cozy spot to take a nap

That pretty much sums it up as far as pets go.  We keep it pretty simple, just like the rest of the things in our life.  Simplicity works for us and apparently our pets as well.  They seem to live long, full and happy lives and we really enjoy them.
