Aw, Nuts!!

One area I've been focusing on this year has been to increase our proteins in our prepper pantry.  Along with freeze dried and canned meats, I've got legumes and several jars of peanut butter as well as a variety of nuts and peanuts.  Not all of our proteins need to come from meat and a variety of proteins is important to provide proper nutrients.  Adding a cache of nuts to our prepper pantry is an excellent way to add protein and additional nutrients to our diet.

I've purchased them on sale as I find them for a really good price and even found some on markdown in the clearance bin.  Almonds and peanuts in their own packaging last a good long time and can be vacuum sealed to make them last even longer.  I keep pecans, walnuts and other more oily nuts in the freezer so they don't go rancid.

Nuts are one of those things that can be eaten without any special preparation or cooking so they are an excellent option for a quick snack or to add to a meal.  And they are good added to baked goods, cereals and other foods as well.  A variety of nuts is a good addition to your long term food storage.
