Our Garden Is Three Months Old!

The hot weather is wreaking havoc on my poor garden, flowers and lawn.  With the temperatures at and above 100° on a daily basis it is difficult to keep everything adequately watered and things just don’t grow as well as they might otherwise.

The forest fires outside Boise are still burning strong and as a result our air quality is horrible.  The smoke is so thick we can’t see the foothills most of the time and everything smells like smoke.  I haven’t hung laundry out this week because of it.

We have been harvesting zucchini, our corn is loaded and the tomatoes are turning red.  I picked one this morning.  The watermelons are the size of softballs and the pears are getting close to picking as well.

Our chickens are two months old and we continue to dote on them daily.  They are spoiled and very much loved.  They love to sit in your lap and visit.  The girls keep them in ice water and produce scraps.  We turn them loose to scratch in the yard in the evenings and have a ball sitting out and watching them.

Although I love a hot summer we could use some serious rain and cooler temperatures to get the forest fires under control and clear the air.  Rain would add some much needed nutrients to the ground as well.  So I am hopeful for a change of weather and fearful of my next water bill. J

How is your garden growing?
