Grocery Budget Update - February

Another month, albeit the shortest one of the year, has swept by in rapid fashion.  I can't believe it is already time to do this post.

Because I "overspent" in January I had to carry over a negative balance.  I began our month with $112.98.  Nonetheless, I am exceptionally pleased with everything I managed to acquire and still stay on budget.

Our non-food spending came in at $14.11 (of our allotted $25 budget) for a 20 lb bag of cat litter, a bottle of fabric softener, a bottle of dish soap, plastic wrap, kitchen sized trash bags, sink cleanser, canning lids, a bottle of aspirin and a lint roller.  Sales, coupons and a stop at the dollar store once again helped keep these expenses to a minimum.

This is what I bought for groceries this month:

What great bargains did you find this month?

  1. Oh wow! You really did good this month! Thumbs up, girl!! I was pleased with some of the deals I scored this month too. Usually we make our own pizza dough but this month there were some health issues going on and it was more about convenience, so when I saw packaged pizza crusts priced at 3 for $1 I scooped a bunch of them up and they were really good- we made some breakfast pizzas as well as regular pizzas. I also found name brand boxes of mac and cheese 3 for $1 (again, something I usually make myself but this was easier.) I found 12 count packages of large tortillas 3 for $1 so I got 12 packages of those to last us a while. Half-gallon containers of name brand orange juice 2 for $1. I asked the deli counter person at our grocery store if they have any ends to the rolls of lunch meat and they did- they sliced it up for me too!- so I got ham and turkey and roast beef for $1.25 a pound each. Large packages of mushrooms I found for 99 cents, dannon yogurts for 25 cents each, 5 pound block of American cheese for $8.99. I picked up a 50 pound bag of sugar for $20.00 (so we are covered for a loooong time!) We drove a little bit of a distance away to a bread outlet and I picked up a dozen loaves of bread for $1 each, packages of hamburger rolls, bagels and English muffins for $1 each and even got some boxes of goodies (donuts, cakes) on the dollar rack that went straight into the freezer for fun nights! All in all, I think we did well staying within budget this month and even restocking things that we had run out of a while ago. :)
