Last Week's Thrifty Moves

Sunday morning was the end of daylight savings time.  This year the time change coupled with the warmest and sunniest day of the year catapulted me right into spring mode.

First thing I loaded up my slow cookers for some meal prepping and made some fresh fruit and gelatin cups to pack in lunches.  I also did something else I'm sure would shock you, but you'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out what that was.

After a quick breakfast of cheese omelets I jumped into my cruddy project clothes, grabbed my tools and headed outside.  I spent eight hours outside working on the coop.  I'll be sharing more details about that later this week.

I will also be sharing with you what I did with what was in the slow cooker too.  It was pretty cool, I think, but then I'm kind of goofy that way.

What's up Matilda?

Monday was another nice day and with that extra hour of daylight I got home from work, changed clothes and headed back outside for a good three hours.  I got the girls to give me a hand and I was able to finish up the main project on the coop.  My oldest went inside a little earlier to fix our dinner and we didn't sit down to eat until 8:00 that night, but it was worth it.  I was super happy with the progress made.

Tuesday was our usual hustle and bustle.  Fortunately loads of leftovers for a quick meal and then it was off to robotics to drop off the oldest and then back to the school for my youngest's orchestra concert.  We had a little time to kill in between so we stopped into the dollar store to pick up an item I wanted to get for the coop.

Edith kept me in line and made sure I worked hard

Wednesday no one had anything scheduled so once again I was back in project mode after work.

Thursday was another robotics meeting so the youngest and I cooled our heels at the library and waited until it was time to pick up the oldest.  It was good to sit and chill.  I wrote and my daughter did homework and read.  Perfect!

I got a jumpstart on my weekend and was back outside working until dark.  Loved it!  Good thing too because Saturday it rained and snowed most of the day.  I was glad I finished up my project on Friday.

Yes, I was storing my tools in the living room each night
until my project was completed

That's reality!

With the yucky weather it was a good time to spend indoors working on projects.  I got up bright and early and got right to work making using up two ripe bananas by baking two loaves of Double ChocolateBanana Bread.  I left one out and put one in the freezer for later.  I got most of my chores done and breakfast on the table, then took my oldest to school for a SAT prep class.

It was a little crazy in there!

When I got home I cleaned the refrigerator inside and out.  It is looking more and more keto friendly in there (I just don't look at the banana bread on the counter).  I put a corned beef roast in the slow cooker for the girls St. Patrick's Day supper.

Next I got my scheduled load of laundry washed, dried, folded and put away.  Then I took some time to write and relax before I had to go pick my girl up.  On the way home we stopped into Albertson's and picked up a rotisserie  chicken.  They had sent me a digital coupon for a free rotisserie chicken which pleased me greatly.  While there I scanned the markdown bins and found some packages of pork chops and a small package of ribs.  I had some of the chicken for supper while the girls enjoyed their corned beef.

Our traditional St. Patrick's Day meal
Corned beef & cabbage with potatoes & carrots

I added stuff to the compost bin.

I shared loads of kitchen scraps with my hens.

I worked a little bit of overtime.

How was your thrifty week?

Edith is such a pretty gal--what kind of hen is she?

  2. I checked your bread recipe. I use a similar one for muffins except there’s yogurt in it. So, so good!
I’m looking forward to your project reveal!
