Last Week's Thrifty Moves

Sunday we had guests come over for a late lunch.  We barbecued burgers and dogs.  All of the meat and buns were leftover from my daughter's graduation party.  It was very nice to entertain and have plenty of food to serve that didn't cost us any extra to provide.  We even had leftovers for lunch the next day.

On the way home from work Monday evening there was plywood offcuts laying out at the FREE WOOD bin.  I stopped and picked that up for a future project we have planned and it's a biggie.  Amazing to me how I'm finding the lumber I need as I need it.  I'm so happy about this plywood find.

I cooked quite a bit over the previous weekend and first part of the week so by Wednesday we had loads of leftovers to finish up.  We had enough leftovers to keep us going for lunches and suppers until Saturday.

The girls went to the library and checked out some movies and games for their Wii.  We had a family movie night complete with popcorn now that no one in this house is wearing braces.  Yay!!

At the beginning of the week, on Sunday, I did a repair to a broken part on my refrigerator.  Check back tomorrow to see what I ended up doing.  Total spent on that repair $0.  Yay!

Another rotten fence post

Saturday the youngest and I tackled a project on the "To Do" list and we did it in Thrifty Mom fashion too.  I'll be talking about that more later in the week, but suffice it to say, it was A LOT of work and not a lot of fun.  LOL.  But it is very satisfying to finally have it completed.  Now we can move onto projects that are going to be way more fun.

We do popcorn the old fashioned way - in a big pot with oil & drizzled with butter!

I cut open my tube of face cream so I can get out every last bit before I toss it.  I squeezed every last bit out of a tube of toothpaste too before tossing it out.

I worked some more overtime last week. I also earned a $30 VISA gift card along with a goodie bag filled with healthy snacks for participating in a health and wellness screening at work.

I did a lot of research online for some future projects I'd like to do so I have some really good ideas on how to go about them.  If you ever need to research stuff Google and YouTube are great resources.  I use them all the time.

I downloaded some digital coupons to my grocery store rewards card.  I also made out a shopping list for items on sale in the weekly flyer.  However, I didn't do any grocery shopping last week as we had plenty of food still left from the big shop we did on our way home from vacation.

Our Catalpa tree is in full bloom.  So pretty!

Some of the 15 Minute Chores I accomplished to keep my home in order:

Laundry Room & Half Bathroom - vacuumed floors, wiped down appliances, cleaned sink & mirrors, mopped bathroom floor.  Daily swish & swipe.

Dining Room - vacuumed floor, dusted shelves and chair rail.

Kitchen -  vacuumed floor, cleaned microwave & appliances, wiped down base cabinets & drawers, cleaned & bleached sink.

Bedrooms & Main Bathroom - vacuumed & dusted, swapped out the winter bedding for summer.  My oldest cleaned the bathroom.  Daily swish & swipe.

Other - three loads of laundry, vacuumed living room, hallway & entry, polished wood tables & TV stand.  Swept front porch & garage.

How was your thrifty week?
