Sunday morning I made up a triple
batch of homemade granola. While it
baked in the oven I got busy and filled up some Valentine treat bags with
kisses. I used sparkly silver Christmas
ribbon I had in my gift wrap bin to tie the bags closed. I think they turned out pretty cute and the
girls loved receiving them on Tuesday morning.
These are the Christmas Hershey
kisses I found on clearance at ShopKo last month. As you may recall I pulled out all the green
ones to use for cookies. I haven't made
the cookies yet and I confess I've snitched a few too, but since they are green
I may just set them out for St. Patty's Day.
I used fabric from my stash and
polyfil I already had to make a pillow form for the crocheted pillow cover I
finished Sunday afternoon. I had never
made one of these pillow covers like this before. I am really pleased with how it turned out.
I veered off the menu plan a bit
and made an entirely different meal in order to use up some veggies so they
didn't go bad. It is important to be
flexible with meal planning, especially if you want to avoid food waste. We also had a bunch of odds and ends in the
refrigerator so we ended up having a couple of "smorgasboard" meals
for supper.
After dropping the oldest off at
the college campus Tuesday we went to the library to check out books and wait until it
was time to pick her up. I wrote and the
young one read. It saved me a little gas
not running back and forth.
The pillow I finished Sunday afternoon |
I've been watching YouTube videos
in an attempt to expand my crochet skills.
I'm learning to crochet a sweater, something I've always wanted to
do. I've only torn out most of it twice
now. Aargh! I'll keep at it.
Wednesday I ordered 25 bareroot everbearing
strawberry plants from Amazon. I also
ordered a roll of strawberry netting! The plants arrived on Saturday.
The young one and I repaired one
of the water feeders that broke this winter and gave all of the feeders a bath....
again. It is so muddy outside.
I love having farm fresh eggs again! |
We gave our kitchen scraps to the
chickens again this week. I also used
some rendered beef fat I had saved to make them a suet cake. We now have three of the four hens back in
full egg laying mode. We sold a dozen
eggs to some friends who had been anxiously waiting.
I washed a bunch of quart sized
Ziploc bags to reuse
I composted coffee grounds, tea
bags and egg shells I crunched up. I
made another fire starter with dryer lint, a TP tube and a piece of newspaper.
Breakfast |
On the way home from work Thursday
I picked up two bottles of Purex laundry detergent on sale for $1.99 each. I also used a $1 OFF coupon to bring my final
cost to $3.99.
I renewed my youngest daughter's
cell phone service for 90 days for less than $21. I found a promo code online which gave me 60
extra minutes for free.
The Fred Meyer Friday freebie was
a container of yogurt. I downloaded that
to my card.
Saturday morning I dropped off the
oldest at the campus. On the way home I
made a big produce run.
How thrifty was your week?
Love your idea of buying kisses after season. I already did it for the shower and I also bought m and m.s Did the same thing with latex gloves on of course. Such a good idea! I love granny squares.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it nice when you can take advantage of those sales? I promise my kiddos could care less whether they were Christmas kisses or not. It's chocolate!
Deletemade chunky applesauce with apples with bad spots, husby took 7 kitchen garbage liners & 5 Walmart bags to the SA. I'm cleaning out!! Simmered chicken parts for broth, many washed out ziplocs, bread ends in oven to dry out..
ReplyDeleteGood job! Especially with your donations. I love homemade applesauce. You really accomplished a lot. I'm impressed.
DeleteSounds like you had a very good, thrifty week! Mine was OK; I had some expenses, but nothing that wasn't budgeted for.
ReplyDeleteOh excellent. I'm glad you had them budgeted in. Its those unexpected expenses that really are not fun. ;)
