I'm shaking it up folks! This year the monthly meal plans haven't been
working too well for us. For one reason
or another we haven't ended up making the things I had planned out. Our schedules have been crazy busy with a lot
of things going on.
Another thing that has happened is me. My tastes are changing as I am
focusing more on healthy eating to improve health and well being. One of the biggest changes I've made has been
to incorporate more plant based meals and fewer meat dishes. Sometimes I end up creating two meals to fill
up the kids and take care of me.
The girls and I talked about it
and we've decided, in order not to work poor Mom to death we would divide and
conquer. From now on, I'll be doing my
grocery shopping bright and early on Saturday mornings. It is just too hectic to stop after work and
shop. And honestly, after a long day of
work, I'm tired and just want to go home.
We have loads of food in the house
so there are plenty of good options stockpiled away. I'm going to focus most of my shopping on produce
and a few supplemental and sales items.
With this template the menu plan is on the left and the shopping list for the following week is on the right |
Based on what I buy on Saturday I
will map out the meals for the week ahead meaning I'll be using my Weekly Menu Planner now. This is a huge change for
me. I'll probably do two or three weeks
at a time, but then go back and tweak them once I've done my actual shopping.
Lastly, if the girls decide they
don't like what I'm fixing for meals then they will take over the
responsibility of creating something else.
They are excited about it and I'm excited for them. I'm sure this will give them loads of good meal
planning and cooking experience.

Of course, I'll be sharing all of
our culinary creations with you. Not
sure yet what the format will be exactly, but I'll come up with something. I'll also be posting recipes too, so be sure
to look for those.
I'm pretty excited about
this. I definitely am looking forward to
giving it a try.
I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your blog. I have been starting from your first entry and reading through. You have great posts that are very helpful and excellent suggestions and recipes. I have gleaned so much from everything you have entered. Thankyou so much for sharing all of this. ReplyDeleteThank you very much Beth. That is some seriously high praise. I am so happy you found us.
DeleteI don't do a meal plan, but definitely know what is coming next. I only really buy loss leaders and cook from the pantry. I love your blog.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. I'm going to be doing a lot of pantry cooking too. If not me, my girls will be anyway. :)
DeleteA plant-based diet is awesome! And I think it's fabulous that you're giving your girls the responsibility to make their own dinner if they don't like what you make. Great parenting!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you. I think it will be great for all of us. I love my veggies. :)
DeleteIt's good to know what is working and what isn't and having the flexibility to switch things around to suit you. I'm sure your daughters will benefit from having to make their own meals if they don't like what you prepare. It will be interesting to see what they come up with. :)
ReplyDeleteI think so too. I'm eager to see what they end up doing. :0)
DeleteI have just reached a point where the kids need higher calorie meals, & I need significantly lower calorie meals. ;-) We've been mixing & matching - I add a pasta or carb side to accompany the main course. It's always a work in progress!
ReplyDeleteIt really is a work in progress. I just keep working at it and fine tune things.
