Last Week's Thrifty Moves

It was a quietly productive week last week.  I was able to get quite a few little things done around the house during the work week and a couple good projects done on the weekend.  That always makes me feel good to be productive without working myself into the ground.  This past week I really paced myself and I'm glad I did.  It made everything I did much more enjoyable.

We've had a lot of hot days lately so I got up pretty early Sunday morning to get some yard work done before the heat of the day hit.  I had borrowed the hedge trimmer from my co-worker again to trim up the neighbor's hedges that were creeping over our driveway.  While I was at it I trimmed up the three little bushes in our yard and then I raked and swept everything up.  I am so appreciative for the loan of the hedge trimmer which saves me the cost of purchasing one or hiring someone to do the work for me.

Wednesday evening I had a date night with my youngest.  For the first time this year she and I went out to dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant.  We shared an order of fajitas and brought home enough leftovers for two lunches.

I placed and received my Amazon order for more prepper pantry items.  Free shipping by using our prime account.  I was also able to get our kitty Jack's medicine from Amazon for half the cost of what the vet would charge.

Using craft items I already had on hand I continued to work on my day planner for 2021.  I also completed the little cowl neck warmer I was crocheting.  It will be a nice winter addition when it gets really cold outside.

Friday we enjoyed a family movie night watching movies from our own DVD collection.  While we watch the movie we also gathered up all four of the box fans we use in our house, took them apart and gave them a good cleaning which will help them function better and last longer.

Saturday morning I used some scrap fabric I had to complete a new sew storage project for Laverne.  I'll tell you more about that tomorrow.  After that I spent the better part of the day putting together a puzzle I had picked up at a thrift store a couple months ago for 99¢ and watching movies using our Amazon prime account.

I gave myself a haircut and it turned out pretty darned good too.  This is the second haircut I have given myself since the pandemic hit.  I am glad I got brave enough to give it a try because being able to cut my own hair will save me a ton of money over time.

I got some coupons in the mail from Fred Meyer.  One is redeemable for a FREE box of pop tarts.  I'll likely add those to the prepper pantry.

I helped myself to a book from the FREE pile in our break room at work.  Now I just need to find some time to read it.

Routine Maintenance = vacuumed and cleaned all of our box fans

Prepper Pantry = dehydrated cream, tomato powder, cheddar cheese powder.

My biggest project last week was to put our guest room back in order

Some of the 15 Minute Chores I accomplished to keep my home in order:

Laundry Room & Half Bathroom - vacuumed floors.  Daily swish & swipe.

Dining Room - vacuumed & dusted, mopped floor, cleaned baseboards.

Kitchen -  vacuumed & mopped floor, wiped down cabinets, bleached sink, cleaned microwave, range hood & stove.

Bedrooms & Main Bathroom - vacuumed & dusted, cleaned tub, scrubbed sink.  Daily swish & swipe.

Other - two large loads of laundry, vacuumed & dusted living room, hallway & entry.  Tidied up, vacuumed and dusted our guest room and washed all the bedding.  Swept front porch, tidied & swept the garage.

How was your thrifty week?

Have you used any of those prepper items before like the heavy cream powder? Do you like it if so?

    1. Pop tarts are awesome. LOL

I haven't tried the cream yet but the other stuff is pretty good. I hope to make tomato soup and see how it goes. I have heard good things so I am hopeful. 😃

  2. I enjoy reading your blog. Have you used the heavy cream and tomato powders before? Do you find them similar to the "real" thing? I've never seen them before and am curious. Thanks

    1. The tomato powder surprised me. I have yet to try the cream. I think most of what I have tried so far is pretty comparable.

  3. Hedges can be a pain. We finally had ours dug up and removed because the maintenance was just too much, it grew so fast. Also, it blocked some of the view of the street from our driveway, so it was a nuisance that way too. We don't miss it!

I'm impressed with your haircutting skills! I am seriously thinking about cutting my own hair soon too and I've been watching tutorials on how to do it. I just need to muster up the courage :) The last time I tried cutting my hair was about 40 years ago and it did not turn out well ...

    1. I would love to have those hedges removed but they belong to the neighbors and he won't do it. :(

Once I did it it wasn't scary anymore. Not sure why I waited so long to give it a try.

  4. Please let us know how the heavy cream works. How do you use the dried cheese? You had a very productive weekend. Thanks for sharing.

  5. Okay, I will. So far only cheese sauce with milk and the cheese stirred into some pasta. I didn't try it myself but I heard it was good. I haven't tried this brand I just bought yet. It is all a new experience for me.

  6. When I see your home I just want to come and sit there and relax. lol. It looks so pleasing and peaceful. Beautiful. I still have a few hot spots like my office and the dining room (my husband keeps stashing stuff along the wall in boxes! Slow and steady wins the race I will just keep at it. Been working a lot lately for my heart doctor. Actually came out of retirement to "help out" for a few weeks. That was March 2nd. It got up to 40 hours a week and I had to put the brakes on it and now 30 or under. I have to watch my health. I answer phones and get patients what they need like tests, labs, referrals to specialists and surgery clearances. All stuff I have done before but the funny thing is I am alone in the office with the one fish almost every day. The doctor has been working out of town for 5 months now and should be back to work part time starting the 28th of Aug. We will see. Well sorry for the book. Just wanted to tell how much I enjoy seeing what you do on Laverne and the house / yard. Also enjoying the prepper pantry blogs. I have always been a stock up at the best price person and am watching the deals, sales, and clearances to get what we need in case things go sideways or money drys up. God provides! Take care.

    1. Crystal you are so sweet to say that. My yard is my hotspot these days but like you say, slow and steady wins the race. Your "part time" job sounds like a real blessing. You are so right, God does provide and I am so very grateful for His blessings. Take care my friend. Perhaps some day we'll get to sit, relax and have that visit. :o)
