September turned out
to be a fabulous month and I attribute that to having a better plan,
particularly with the meal prepping we've been doing. I felt like I really had a good handle on
things. I was able to pick up the items
we needed to complete the meals, buy fresh produce and stock up on sales and
markdown items for us to have and use with future meal prepping. In the long run this meal prepping may end up
saving me even more money on our grocery bill.
How fantastic would that be?
Our nonfood items
were comprised of fabric softener, bath soap, cat food, and facial tissue. Not a lot this month.

I was able to stock
up on cheese which I got on sale for 99¢ per package. A really nice variety of sliced and shredded
cheeses which will save me time as well.
I have lots of really good plans as to what I'll be using that in. I also managed quite a few good markdown
items, meat, yogurt, produce and we
made a trip to the Franz bakery for bread, rolls and buns which pretty much
finished filling up the freezer in our garage.
At Winco I picked up bulk spices and cornstarch to refill our jars. Bulk spices save me a ton of money over
purchasing them off the shelf.
It was also a great
month for stocking up on meat and as a result our freezer is now very
full. I was able to pick up three very
large beef pot roasts and two huge packages of pork ribs that were on sale at
$1.99 a pound. I was super excited about
the price on those roasts, let me tell you.

DeleteI have a similar budget to yours and I am finding it harder to stay on budget. I have found a lot of good deals in the last few months but I still feel like I am spending too much. Do you think prices/inflation are pinching you too much lately?
ReplyDeleteI find I've been consistently over every month, not a lot, but over nonetheless. Gas has been higher this year and I think that is why. Everything has to be shipped and I've noticed grocery prices edging up throughout the year.

DeleteYou did great and I can't believe some of those markdown deals! WOW! I buy spices in bulk, along with flour, sugar, nuts and a few other things most of the year at Winco also. The only time I buy them not in bulk is if they are cheaper due to sales and coupons in other areas of the store. ;)
