Quick & Easy Thrifty Candle Gift

Sometimes you just need a nice little gift for someone but you might not have much money to spend.  You also might not have much time to make something either.  I got you covered.  This idea is quick, easy and very budget friendly.

Cellophane treat bags make for handy gift bags - 10/$1

Gift tag made from scraps

I had stopped in at Dollar Tree a while back for crafting supplies and while I was there I checked out the aisle with all the candles and decor.  I found they had just put in a new stock of the vanilla pillar candles I like.  They are a pretty good size have a great scent and for a dollar you certainly can't beat the price.

One square glass container, one vanilla scented votive pillar
and a 10 pack of little matchboxes - $3.00

I also picked up one of their heavy glass square candle holders.  I like the look of a round pillar in a square container for some reason.  In the kitchen department I had grabbed a package of their mini matchboxes.  I wanted some for the house and the motorhome.  But my wheels were turning and I thought, hmmm....

I think these little matchboxes are so adorable

When I got home I used a few of my paper scraps and covered the top and bottom of the matchbox.  Why not dress it up a bit?  I cut the paper to size and then glued it right on.

I also added a few embellishments.

I made me one too because they are just too darn cute!

Instead of just the candle and holder as the gift I am adding a pretty box of matches to light it with.  Bring it up a notch.

I made some crinkle paper out of a piece of white scrap copy paper and my paper cutter.

I cut thin strips and then folded accordion style. Super quick and super easy and no cost too!

I put the candle into one of the cellophane treat bags I already had and tied it off with a ribbon from my sewing stash and one of my handmade gift tags.

Candle $1, holder $1, matchbox 10¢, bag 10¢, ribbon FREE, paper FREE

I think for less than $2.50 I made a really nice gift that anyone would enjoy receiving.  Don't you?

  2. Very nice! I love the little fancy match box. I've been making candle mats to pair with a candle for gifts. Who doesn't love a candle?
