Revisiting An Old Post - My 4 Season Capsule Wardrobe

I have been doing a four season capsule wardrobe for over six years now and I absolutely love it!  It all easily hangs in my closet and drawers, as things wear out I replace them one item at a time and I always have something to wear no matter what the occasion.  In the morning it is quick and easy to select an outfit, get dressed and get out the door.  No struggles at all.  Super easy to manage.

And, best of all, I don't have to swap out and store clothing with the changing seasons.  My home is small so having space designated to store boxes of off season clothing is simply not an option for me.  If you are at all interested in my four season wardrobe you can click here.  Now let's get dressed!

  1. I have few clothes right now, but that is how I dressed when I had more clothing. I actually always buy pants for the year in the spring or when they go on sale. This is the deep South, and I am warm-natured. I like short sleeves or sleeveless, so spring or summer is when I buy tops for year-round. I buy sweaters when and where I find them in all different colors. I have one decent pair of pants! I can wear a black sleeveless blouse and a colored sweater. Right now, I have two black sleeveless tops, one pink sleeveless top, two red tops with short sleeves. I have 8 sweaters--black, red, lavender, rust/orange, gray, long black, long burgundy, long red. I have three outfits I bought that are really nice--floral top and pants, black/white striped, and black top and pants. I wore the black outfit to church all winter with a different sweater.

In the summer I put all the sweaters in its own gallon storage bag and store them in a shopping bag. So, the other stuff except for the floral top and pants and the striped top and pants are not worn in the winter.

I have one pair of SAS sandals that I wear every day I wear shoes...lol. I bought on sale two pair of SAS dressy sandals with a tiny heal. When my house was destroyed, I was wearing a pair of ratty sandals and they are torn up now.

Except for the sweaters, I only buy black, red, pink, and white tops. The pants are all black--two really old pair and a newer still-black pair.

I have two pink purses and one black.

  2. I don't exactly have a capsule wardrobe, but definitely stick to a theme for work clothes - jeans, top & sweater. My office is more casual than yours, but something similar works well. I do own a few dresses & have more of a need for dressy clothes when I travel, so have that as well. My "at home" style is a bit different, as I control the temperature. Since we've been working from home, I typically wear jeans, slippers, and a long sleeved top. In the summer when our house gets warm, I switch to short sleeves.

By far the item that I have the most of in my closet is black tops! I probably have 8 - different fabrics, sleeve lengths & warmth.

    1. I love basic black wardrobe pieces. I have quite a few tops and bottoms in that color.
