Keep Car Thieves At Bay

Yesterday one of our neighbors had a trumpet and a french horn stolen out of their car.  I am really big on clearing out our car each day to make sure there is nothing to entice someone to break in and steal anything.  It breaks my heart they lost their instruments and I hope they get them back.

With this in mind I thought I'd share this post from almost a year ago with you.

Give it a quick read through and feel free to share your own tips in the comments.

  1. Suggest that they check the local pawn shops -- we actually bought Daughter #1's trumpet and Daughter #2's violin from there. If they can prove ownership (and hopefully they can), they can easily get them back.
We had a huge spate of car break-ins in a nearby neighborhood a few nights ago. The majority of items, though, were taken from unlocked cars! One poor lady had her checkbook and wallet taken. I wondered why in the world you'd keep these items in an unlocked car...open garage or closed one! (Thieves can open a garage door too, if it's not locked.)
    Sad...

    1. They said the police department notifies all the pawn shops so they'll be aware of stolen items. Apparently that is standard protocol here. Cool, huh?

  2. I keep nothing of value in my (locked) car. If anyone breaks into it they will be able to find some loose change and shopping bags. That ought to be worth the effort.

    1. Same here. Even on vacation we empty out EVERYTHING. Not worth taking a chance.

  3. This is a great post You're so right about keeping your car clean! My biggest fear is identity fraud if they happen to get your registration...it happened to a good friend of mine.

  4. Drugs are so prevalent now and harder to get it makes thieves much more daring.

    1. I agree. I want them to be able to see there is nothing worth stealing in my car. No temptation, unless they want to actually take the car, then I'm up a creek - ha, ha.
