Grocery Budget Update - April

I did much better staying on budget this month.  I was even able to chisel away a little at our deficit created last month.  Not much, but a little.

Our beginning balance was $79.50 due to last month's big spend.  As predicted I wasn't able to stick to that amount as our whole budget.  Next month I will try to come in under budget so that in a couple of months we'll be back on track.

I spent a total of $122.26 for food this month.  Our non food budget came in at $7.64 of our allotted $25.00 for bleach, fabric softener, shampoo, a tooth brush and a hair brush.  Not bad in that department.

Our freezer and pantry are nicely stocked and we enjoyed some great meals throughout the month.  This is what I bought:

How did you do with your grocery budget?  Hit any great sales?

  1. You must have great sources for groceries with some of those prices!

Here we can buy a whole or half cabbage---it might last longer than cole slaw mix--I chop mine in the electric chopper and can get a good consistency that way, chopping it coarsely. Cabbage will last a long time in the fridge. Don't know if your family would eat it as a vegetable cooked also. We like it. I paid $2.39 for ONE dozen eggs this week, but I really needed them. I did get some for Easter at .99 a doz.

Our prices for produce, seafood, and pork, as well as eggs, have been skyrocketing lately. I'm beginning to wonder if shrimp will ever be affordable again! Did get crab cakes on sale a couple weeks ago, which was a nice treat, though. It's really becoming a challenge to save at the grocery stores lately and you're doing very well!

    1. We love cabbage cooked or raw. Here the packaged stuff is less money than a whole head. Kind of crazy if you ask me. I have to agree with you, groceries are going up. I don't remember the last time I bought shrimp. I just have to watch the ads and buy stuff as it goes on sale. If I can add a coupon to a sale price then all the better.

  2. You might have went over but you still did pretty great. I am getting better at going to the grocery store less often, which is helping with the budget. Still going over most months, but by smaller amounts.

    1. It is a struggle. No doubt about that. But we just have to keep trying.
