A New Project Is In The Works - And It's HUGE!

My next BIG goal is focused on my RETIREMENT.  Until recently, the how and when has been a bit elusive.  We all assume we will likely retire at age 65, but how do we know for sure that will actually happen?  For me, it was to sit myself down and come up with a tangible plan to ensure that it will happen.  And that is what I did.

In order to attain this goal I have broken it down in to various sized projects.  Some are little and won't take much time at all while others are really big.  HUGE.  J  But they all lead to the ultimate goal.  Retirement.

I hope you guys won't mind riding along with me as I embark on this new adventure.  I'll be sharing these projects with you as we go along.  In fact, I already have.  Remember a certain set of sheets I added lace to and a pink chenille throw pillow?  That's right.

So what is the HUGE one?  Here's a clue:

One of the projects I have in mind is to purchase a small one story home with two bedrooms and one bath.  A sweet, cute little dollhouse, just for me.  Then I will work to pay it off, fix it up and get it retirement ready.  I will also need to furnish and outfit it.  That makes for a lot of little projects to lead up to this huge one.  Yaaaay!

For me, it will be financially better if I live outside of Boise in a smaller town where housing and the cost of living is lower.  The bonus in this is that I want to live in a smaller town so this is actually a dream of mine.  Which town?  Still up for grabs, but I have some good ideas.  So exciting!

Lots and lots to do.  Just like I like it.

  1. I so wish we were neighbors. I would love to have someone like you nearby! My retirement looks a bit different. I am 54. Our mortgage will be paid within a year. If I work at the budget really hard it could be paid by the end of this year. We then have 2 car payments. One of those, once again if I work very hard, can be paid off this year. The fly in the ointment? Hubby is having surgery next week and it will cost us over $3000 out of pocket. I have been horrible with money over the years. It is just within the last year or so that I have improved in this area. You, on the other hand, are a rock star!
I would dearly love to retire before 65 or 67. In fact I would love to retire in my 50's. I don't know if that will happen.

    1. Good for you Lee Ann. You are going to reach some pretty significant goals pretty soon. I understand the desire to get things paid off sooner rather than later. Just keep plugging away at it. Hope all goes well with your husband's surgery.

  2. Really like the plan. As one that is already retired, it makes it much easier the more planning and downsizing one does. I think we may try for one more move in a few years into a smaller home but who knows. In the meantime I continue to lighten the load here.

    1. I will continue to lighten the load as well. I still have stuff to get rid of and use up.

  3. we've discussed downsizing. Not sure about that so I am in the process of getting rid of stuff. Not fun while doing it but sure is freeing afterwards.

    1. Out of all the stuff I have gotten rid of I only miss one item. I don't regret it but we are all different.

  4. OOOOhhhh, how exciting! I'm hoping can learn something from you about how you are planning to achieve your goal!

It's funny because I am currently saving up to buy a small (1000 sq. ft. or less) home to fix up and eventually move into. I want to purchase it while I still have my home now so I can focus on fixing it up and not have to live there at the same time.

I'm really taken with the tiny house living concept but I don't want to go that small! Ideally I'm thinking around 800 to 900 square feet.

    1. I am super excited about it. I'm hoping for between 600 and 800 square feet. I think it is going to be a ton of fun getting ready.

  5. I know from experience, you probably will want to live close to your grandbabies if possible. They usually provide more delight than anything else. Of course, not everyone thinks that way. But most of my friends do. You have some great ideas and it sounds to me as if you have the energy to get started now.

    1. Thank you Doris. I agree. Not too close but not too far away either. My oldest most likely will fly the coop first chance she gets. She already plans to attend college out of state. The youngest will probably stay closer. But you just never really know for sure.
