Ever played Farkle, also known to some as 10,000? It is a fun game that the whole family can play. Quick and easy to learn too. My youngest stomps us at it. She has the gift when it comes to games.
A few years ago I got the idea to make a simple Farkle game to put in our travel trailer so we'd always have it to play when we were camping or on vacation. It really came in handy, especially on a rainy day.
I bought the dice, sold in ten packs, at the dollar store and simply photocopied the instructions from our game I'd purchased at the store. Later that year for Christmas I made several more and gave them away as gifts. The girls loved helping me make them up and it was a lot of fun.
You can easily make a gift to give as well and you can make it as simple or fancy as you like. Basically all you need to make one game is six dice and some copy paper. If you don't already have the directions you can find them here. It includes the history of the game as well which is kind of interesting.

I think it would be kind of fun to buy some fancier wooden dice and make a velvet pouch to put the game in. Then print the directions on some parchment paper or other fancy paper. Put it in a gold foil gift box (sold at the dollar store) and it would be perfect to give as a gift for just a couple dollars.
The game itself isn't all that expensive to purchase at the store, but if you are looking to save a few dollars or for a homemade gift project, one you can do as a family, this one might just be perfect for you.
