A Trip To Wal-Mart & The Thrift Store

The first Saturday of this month my youngest had a cheer camp to attend for four hours.  I figured it would be the perfect time for me to get some errands run before I needed to pick her up so I mapped out a plan and dropped her off.

Everything on this table was $1 each!

My first stop was Wal-Mart to pick up kitty food and then Goodwill which is located right across the street.  While at Wal-Mart I happened across a couple of clearance racks which blew my mind.  I was able to find two pair of Levis jeans and two Avia knit tops for only $1 each!  They actually had my size in the Levis and a size to fit my youngest too.  Rarely am I ever that lucky.  I also found two really nice backpacks for my youngest to have for high school for only $1.  Regular price on those was $24.88!  I was so excited!

All of the yellow tag items were 50% OFF

My goal for Goodwill was affordable workout wear.  I had priced leggings when we were at the mall last month and about choked.  They are really expensive.  I found some I'd be willing to wear at JC Penney for $28 and some cheap ones for $18 that I really didn't want to wear.  Needless to say I didn't buy any leggings at the mall.

But at Goodwill I found some nice ones, name brands too.  I picked up three pair of leggings for myself and a pair each for the girls for around $2 each and a workout top for my youngest to replace the one she tossed last month.  I also found a top to replace the one I got paint on last summer for $1.99 as well as a Reebok jacket, brand new for $5.99.  I looked at tops and sweaters for work and found a cute one to add to my wardrobe.  I got rid of three work tops last month and only planned to replace one of them.  Done!  $2!

I found a nice little cut glass tray to put in my kitchen.  I wanted something to set my soap dispensers on and this one is just perfect.  It was only $1.99.

I still cannot believe I found brand new Levis jeans for only $1!

I am really happy with the items I found and the decision to go ahead and purchase these things.  Nothing I purchased that day, with the exception of the kitty food, was a need, purely a want, however these things will enhance our lives.  Making things better and improving our lives is important.  Doing so while spending less, reusing items whenever possible and saving my $$ makes me even happier.

  1. More than great deals__Jeans for a buck is unheard of! Technically we need very little, but I want enough clothes so I can go a few days between washings. I don't consider the things you bought unnecessary if it makes life easier.

  4. Quick -- there's a keto baking book online at Amazon for FREE! I'm not sure how long the price will last, but here's the link:

  5. I have heard that thanks to Marie Kondo and her destashing books and program, the thrift stores are getting lots of wonderful stuff in. Clothing, kitchen, and really everything. I have heard that stores in the Bay Area of California have more things than they can handle. I am hoping that means the prices will go lower! You picked up some great things.

    1. The racks were stuffed when I was there. I bet that is why. Makes a lot of sense.

  7. A million years ago :) in my senior year of high school and the summer before starting college, my mom would get me one thing during her weekly shopping trip on Fridays after work — toothpaste, deodorant, towels, etc. I always looked forward to it. I kept my slowly accumulating stash in a suitcase in my room. When it was time to go to college, I was all set. The apple does not fall from the tree! Reading your post reminded me of that long ago slow but steady stock up of supplies. Keep up the good work, Mama!
