Last Week's Thrifty Moves

I went through the scraps I still have left from the Covered Clothes Hangers project and pieced together several most of what I needed to make another clothes pin bag.  Since I was short on the middle pieces on the front I crazy quilted smaller scraps and then cut out the pieces.  With a little trim and some decorative stitching I think it turned out really nice.  Now to decide which one I'm keeping.  Hmmm.

The oldest needed a day to herself in a quiet house so she could get caught up on some assignments for school  so the youngest and I enjoyed a day out of treasure shopping and went to lunch.  I'll be sharing more about our little outing with all of you tomorrow.

We brought home enough leftovers from the restaurant for us to have lunch the next day.

I made another kerosene lamp from a vintage canning jar I picked up at a thrift store on Sunday.  In January I had bought a set of lamp kits from Amazon, so I pulled another kit from my stash and added it to the jar with the lid adapter that came with it.  Now I have one for my future retirement house.

I had the opportunity to work more overtime and did.

I altered one of my bras, taking it in on the sides, so it would fit better.

We cooked and enjoyed meals all week using items we already had on hand.

I sold two dozen eggs to a co-worker and two more to a friend.  We fed our kitchen scraps to the chickens.

It was another hot week in paradise, but we managed to stay fairly cool opening the windows in the early morning hours and using the two A/C units in the afternoons and evenings.  Needless to say I am not looking forward to the next power bill.

I received a bunch of really good coupons in the mail from Fred Meyer and two neighborhood restaurants we happen to like.  Both within walking distance.

How was your thrifty week?

  1. I love the clothes pin bags.. Both are so cute..
And a brilliant idea on the lantern.
I made me a clothes pin bag [a couple years ago], out of a pumpkin dish cloth.. Still pretty as can be, and I use it alot. I have done the normal thrifty things this week..Trying to keep the AC off as much as possible. But, we too are having some really hot weather.
    Have a great week.

  2. I remember reading that you have been diagnosed with lupus which, I think, is in the same family of autoimmune/inflammation disorders as multiple sclerosis (which I have) and the reason I mention this is because some conditions are heat sensitive and can qualify for a Medical Baseline Allowance on your cooling bills. I found this out from my doctor and have put it to much use here in Southern California. I'm not sure if lupus qualifies or if it is offered in Idaho but I wanted to let you know. Take care!
