I am
not a huge shopper but there are certain times of the year when I need to shop
for things. If I can find them on sale,
or better yet clearance, that makes me a happier shopper. A few items I notice always seem to go on
sale at this time of year are:
June
·
Swimwear,
Flip Flops & Sandals are on sale
·
Athletic
shoes, winter styles & children’s shoes on clearance.
·
Winter
coats on clearance
·
Purses
on clearance
·
Winter
socks on clearance – Christmas presents!
·
Small
kitchen appliances
Last
year on the day after school ended I bought my girls four pair of shoes for
school on a significant markdown. I
bought them in larger sizes than what they were currently wearing so they would
fit them in the fall. If you can predict
that you can save a bundle. I paid $65 total for them to each have a pair of
sneakers and a pair of dress shoes.
Winter
coats for kids and adults are on clearance at deeply reduced pricing. Again, I buy larger than they need in hopes
they can wear them for a couple of years.
My
mother needed a purse the other day and all of the leftovers from winter were
on clearance. There was a sign for 50%
off the lowest markdown price which I noticed were already at 50% of original
price. A $100 leather purse ended up
costing $24.99!
Super
nice warm winter socks for kids and adults, leftover from Christmas, some with
holiday themes, some not are on clearance right now too. $9.99 marked down to $.99 a pair! Think Christmas gifts as well as warming your
own feet next winter.
Small
kitchen appliances such as coffee makers, toasters, slow cookers and griddles
are marked down to make way for the new ones they will be stocking this
fall. If you are in need of a new
griddle or a slow cooker now is the time to buy. Think gifts too. Clearance sales like these are a big reason I
start my Christmas shopping in June.
July
After the 4th of July holiday:
·
Plants,
perennials, shrubs, trees and landscape décor.
· Landscape
supplies – soils, soil amendment, fertilizer, weed barrier, mulch, landscape
timbers and edging, hoses and sprinklers, fountain supplies, etc.
·
Lawn
furniture
·
Barbeque
grills and supplies
·
Bug
repellent, citronella candles, torches and oil
·
Picnic
supplies
For us
summer is still in full swing but for retailers they need to get rid of this
stuff to make way for the big Back-To-School display and, dare I say it,
artificial Christmas trees and lighting.
If you
are doing a big landscape project and can wait until July to finish it off you
could really save a bundle here too.
Plants and shrubs will get clearanced out for pennies and trees too at a
significant savings. Landscape décor
makes great gifts – birthdays, Mother’s Day, Fathers Day.
Lawn
furniture is also at a great savings.
Two years ago I bought our foldable patio set – table, four chairs and
two side tables for $50! Need a
new gas or charcoal grill. Hold off a
little longer and there will most likely be savings in your future.
Bug repellant
– you still need it but the stores seem to want this stuff off their
shelves. You will still find it year
round in the sporting goods section but rather than store it and put it up
there later retailers just want to get it out of the store.
Picnic
supplies, such as skewers, re-usable plastic cups, plates, bowls, pitchers and
serving ware get marked down to 25% of their original price in most cases
making it a much more affordable option.
There
will be more great buys coming in August too, so stay tuned! J
